third in Huron..Perth meet

The GDCI Vikings
track and field team
finished third among
eleven teams in the
Huron -Perth track and
field championship held
at Robarts School in
London last Thursday.
Stuart Crew was the
Vikings' top competitor,
with record breaking
performances in the
junior boys' 100 metres
and 110 metre 'hurdles,
with times of 11.5 and 16.3
seconds respectively.
Crew also had a second
place finish in the 200
metres to go with his two
first place efforts.
Sandra Rowe also had
two first place finishes in
the senior girls' division
in the shotput and discus
events.
In the midget boys'
category Dennis Aubin
was first in the highjump
and second in the 800
metres. Dave McDonald
was second in the high -
jump. Andy Masse
grabbed a third in the
triple jump and Rob
Plunkett was third in the
discus.
In junior boys com-
petition, in addition to
Crew's outstanding ef-
forts, the Vikings got a
second place front -Glen
Osborne in the highjump
and a second from Daryl
Beattie in the long jump.
The Vikings relay team
was third in the boys' 400
metre relay.
Dave MacKenzie won
the 100 metre event in the
senior boys' division and
was second in the 110
metre hurdles. Jim Van
Osch had second place
finishes in the discus and
javelin.
The Vikings had three
third place finishes in
midget girls' com-
petition. Competitors
winning third place
ribbons were Rosemary
O'Keefe in the 100
metres, Teresa Osborne
in the highjump and
Robin MacDonald in the
discus. The 400 metre
relay team was also third
and Jackie Dalton had a
second place finish in the
800 metre run.
In junior girls events,
Tracy MacEwan had
second place finishes in Besides Sandra Rowe's
both the 400 and 800 metre top finishes in senior
events. Judy Godfrey was girls' competition, Grace
second in the highjump Ross had a second in the
_and- Janet Gardner had -a---100 metres and Joni
third in the discus throw. Thompson was second in
the 100 metre hurdles.

Vikings rally for 3-2
win over Stratford

The GDCI junior
Vikings defeated
Stratford Northwestern 3-
2 here last Thursday in
Huron Perth Conference
soccer action, raising
their record to two wins
and one loss.
Northwestern grabbed
a 2-0 lead in the first half
but Mike Wedlock's two
goals in the second
quarter put the Vikings
back in the game and left
the score tied at 2-2 at
half-time.
Steve Walters got the
winning goal for the
Vikings in the last five
minutes of play. The
Vikings had ' dominated
play in the second half
and were full value for
their win.
Tuesday, the Vikings
played here against
Seaforth and today
(Thursday) they play in
�unwn against central
Huron. Next Tuesday
they play their final game
of the regular schedule
here against Wingham.

Ladies softball
' Three games were
played in the Huron
Ladies Softball League
this week, .the second
week of schedule play.
Last Thursday the
Superstars got by Joe's
Girls 14-10 and the Garb
and Gear Bats Blues
humbled the Goderich
Elevators 18-4.
In the only shceduled
game Tuesday, the
Lucknow Noisy Ladies
hammered Joe's Girls,
20-5.
Pellow pitches Fisher to wins

Fisher Builders quickly
assumed command of the
Dunlop Division winning
the opening two games of
their Industrial fastball.

Fred Pellow turned in a
stingy two -hitter in
Fishers 6-0 opening game
win over Little Bowl and
then came in for some
late inning relief work in
their 5-4 win over
Graham Electric,
Monday.
Fishers won the first
game of the season in
convincing style behind
Pellow's performance
scoring six runs on seven
hits off losing pitcher
Doran Love.
McGee Pontiac pitcher, Ken Daer threw this pitch
right past a Graham Electric batter in Industrial
Fastball League action, Sunday. The Pontiacs held
a slim 1-0 lead in the game before the Electrics tied
it with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The
game ended in a 1-1 tie' after nine innings of play.

But they didn't come by
the win easily.. The game
was scoreless after four
innings before Fisher
rallied for four runs in the
fifth and two in the sixth
to clinch:the win.

and Jim Durst scored
fourth inning runs for
Fisher. Jim Bell and
Bloch added •insurance
runs in the sixth inning.
Little Bowl bats were

pitching as they managed
but two hits across seven
innings. Rob Snell san-
dwiched a single between
strikeouts and Pellow's
only trouble carne in. .the.
fifth inning when Dave
Patterson led off with a
triple. Pellow promptly
struck out the next two
batters and got Terry
Powell to gorund out to
end the inning.
Durst, with a double
and triple in four trips to
the plate and Jack
MacKinnon with a pair of
singles led the Fisher
seven -hit attack.

Lakeport win, lose by 2-1

If the first two games of
the schedule are in-
dicative of season, play
the 0 Lakeport Steelers
won't be scoring many
runs. But they won't be
giving up many either.
In two league games
Lakeport gave up only
' three runs to the op-
position but managed to
score only three runs
themselves in splitting
the games against
Ziebart and Green and
Parent.
Lakeport lost their
opening game of the
season to Green and
Parent 2-1 and then got
revenge with a 2-1 win
over Ziebart, Monday.
The pitching arm of
Jim Martin completely
shut down the Lakeport
offence Sunday as Martin
spun a neat one -hitter in
recording the win.
Martin's vision's of a no-
hitter were shattered by a
two -out fifth inning single
by Carmen Fielder.
Fielder's hit didn't figure
in the Lakeport run
however, which was
scored inthe seventh
inning by Wayne Draper
after he walked and
scored on an error.
Green and Parent gave
no indications of wanting
to win the game waiting
until the bottom of the
sixth to score their two
runs. Martin started the
rally with a single that
eluded the right fielder.
He scored on Larry
Donnelly's single and
Donnelly evtually scored

fun run covering 10 km.
