Goderich Rebekah Lodge No. 89 members celebrated the 70th
anniversary of the lodge's founding on Tuesday evening with the
cutting of a special anniversary cake presented to them by the
Past Noble Grands Club. Seen left to right, are Mrs. Irene Har-
nack, Noble Grand, Mrs. Joy Smith, Vice Noble Grand, Mrs.
Kathleen Cuthill, District Deputy President from Seaforth, Mrs.
Mamie Sutcliffe, a member of the lodge for 64 years, and Mrs.
Vera Larder, President of the Past Noble Grands Club. About 100
lodge members from London, Exeter, Hensall, Seaforth, Clinton)

MacKay Hall which was part of the anniversary celebrations.

Needlepoint course successful
Members of the Tiger
Dunlop needlepoint
course met in Colborne
Township Hall on Wed-
nesday, May 9 to show
what they had made with
the sample needlepoint
and any other projects
they themselves had •
made or just started.with
the knowledge gained
from the course.
They also discussed.
Achievement Night
which will be in Wingham
May 24. The leaders, Mrs.
Mollie Sutton, Mrs.
Dorothy Feaganand Mrs.
Donna Young asked all
members . wishing to
attend Achievement
Night to meet at Colborne
Township Hall, Thur-
sday, May 24 at 6 p.m. for
transportation and also
told them to bring ar-
ticles they wished to
display whether finished
or just started.

General Election on May
22. The Canada Elections
Act states that each.
employee must have four
consecutive hours for the
purpose of casting his
vote and, if the hours of
his employment do not
allow, for such four
consecutive hours, his
employer shall allow him
such additional' time as
may be necessary to
provide four consecutive
hours.
The main changes are:
hourly -paid workers are.
covered by the hours -off -
work provision for the
first time; and all
workers in all branches of
the transportation in-
dustry are'" entitled to
time off under •the new
rules. Previously, only
workers in railways were
given this right.
If you are eligible to
votre, you are entitled to
those four consecutive
hours for voting whilethe
polls are open between 9
a.m. and 8 p.m. on
election day. If this en-
titlement means an
absence from your place
of employment, this is to
be arranged at the
convenience of your
employer, but with no
deduction in pay or any
penalty.
You can, if you and
your employer agree,
waive all or Bart of the
time off to which you are
entitled.

It won't be long before
softball will be the
recreation sport for 'the
summer months. Softball
registration for Colborne
Township girls and boys,
eight to 18 years of age,
will be this Saturday,
May 19 at Colborne
Township Hall, Carlow
from 10 to 12 a.m.
If your children are
interested in playing
softball this summer, 'be- •
sure you register them
and if you can help in
coaching, etc., those in
charge will appreciate
your interest.

Institute" May meeting
will be Thursday, May 24
in Colborne Township
Hall at 1:45 p.m. The
Goderich Women's
Institute will be 'guests
and there will be a special
speaker.
As this is the month for
planting, arrange to
bring hous, plants or'
garden plants for the
"Plant and Bloomer
Sale." Plan to attend.
SCHOOL NEWS
This coming weekend is
what has always been
known as the May 24
holiday so school will be
closqd for the Monday,
May 21 holiday. On
Thursday, May 31, the
school will be
represented at the
Brookside School Track
and Field Day activities.
SOCIAL NEWS
Last 'Sunday was
Mother's Day and many
homes were gladdened
with the visit of sons and
daughters either in
person or by phone calls.
I am sure many paused
and recalled ,former
years of the't•childhood
and now wear flower in
their hearts on Mother's
Day for the • grandest
mother in the world.
Mr. and Mrs. R.
Buchanan visited. their
son Ron and wife •and
family in St. Thomas on
Sunday and attended
their grandson Timothy's
First Communion..

enjoys
convention
On Monday, May 7, the
regular monthly meeting
of the Ahi'n-eel+ -Chapter of
the I.O.D.E. was held at
the home of Mrs. J.
Wilson, Airport Road,
with- a very good at-
tendance.
The Regent, Mrs. R.
Neville presided over the
meeting. The flags were
presented and retired by
Mrs. B. Ruffell.
The treasurer's and
secretary's reports were
heard and accepted as
read. Discussion of the
minutes followed and the
roll call was answered by
members present.
Reports of a recent and
very successful dessert
card party were heard.
Prizes were awarded as
follows: bridge, Mrs. D.
Mooney and Mrs. PA.
Carey, .euchre, Mrs. S.
McPhee and Mrs. E.
Smith. The door prize
was won by Mrs. S.
McPhee and the hampers
of groceries were won by
Mrs. M. Sturdy and Mrs.
D. Henry.
The bake .sale planned
for June 1 is to be con-
vened by Mrs. M. Auld.
An executive meeting
is to be held on May 15 at
the home of Mrs. G.
Henderson.
. A very fine and in-
teresting report of the
Hamilton Convention was
given by Mrs. G. Neville
and an interestingreport
was also given by Mrs. G.
Henderson of a lovely bus
trip around Hamilton
while at the convention. It
was noted that there are
310 I.O.D.E. chapters in
Ontario.
A' lunch followed the
meeting served by the
hostess and her
assistants, Mrs. N. Hugill
and Mrs. M. Emmerson.
