Goderich area obituaries ROBERT ALEXANDER MACGREGOR Robert Alexander MacGregor of Ashfield Township died suddenly at his home on Highway 21, one-half mile north of Kintail on Wednesday, May 9 at the age of 57. He was born on June 21, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, the only son of Colin and Mae (Drennan) MacGregor. He moved from Detroit to Kintail with , his parents in November of 1926. He received his education at S.S. No. 3 Ashfield and at Lucknow Continuation School which he attended for five years,, After the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted. with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He graduated from the Canadian Air Force Training Centre at Centralia in 1943 and received his wings. He then served at different RCAF bases in western Canada. Following his military service, he returned to Ashfield Township to work the 100 acre MacGregor Homestead located in the front section of lot number 25, Lake Range. About 15 years ago he purchased the adjoining 50 acres. He worked as a cash cropper for more than three decades. He was an adherent of Ashfield Presbyterian Church. ' After his father's death in 1958, he became Kintail Cemetery Superin- tendent, a position he filled until his own death. He , was appointed municipal drain in- spector some years ago by long-time Ashfield Township Councillor, the late Jack Bradley. Before becoming Ashfield drain inspector, he had acquired several years experience as a ditching - drainage contractor while in partnership with Kintail neighbour David McKenzie. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jean Finlayson - and Mrs. George (Anna) Lead- better, both of Goderich. A funeral service was held on Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m.' at the McCallum Funeral Home in Goderich. The Reverend Hugh Nugent of Ashfield Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment was in Kintail Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald, Doug and Jack Drennan all of R.R. 3 Goderich, Gordon MacGregor, of London and George and Sandy MacGregor of Dundas. MRS. AMBER MATILDA POPP Mrs. Amber Matilda Popp of 165 Rattenbury Street East in Clinton died in Stratford General Hospital on Tuesday, May 8 at the age of 76. She was born in Ash- field Toivnship on August 31, 1902 to Robert and Matilda (Plunkett) McKenzie. She attended Dungannon Public School and Continuation School in Dungannon. She lived in Ashfield Township until going to Strathroy for five years. She then lived in Dungannon until moving to Goderich in 1964. She had lived in Clinton since 1966. On August 7, 1929 she married Otto H. Popp in Dungannon. He predeceased her on September 4, 1964. • She was a life member of the Women's Institute and the U.C.W. She was. a member of Ontario Street United Church in Clinton. She is survived by four children, Mrs. "Alvin. (Bertha) McGee of Goderich, Lorne of Blyth, and Mrs. Brian (Lillian) Hallam and Murray, both of Auburn; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Pearl Christine) Hall of Vic- toria, B.C.; 19 grand- children; and two great- grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Friday, May 11 at 1 p.m. at Stiles Funeral Home in Goderich. The. Reverend R. Norman Pick officiated. Interment was in Dungannon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Martin McGee, Gregory Hallam, and Ken, Robert, Steven and Paul Popp. Flower bearers were David and Jeff Popp. FRANK SKELTON Frank Skelton of 36 Britannia Road West in Goderich died in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Saturday, May 12. He was born in Shef- field, England to Mary Elizabeth (Hartley) and Frank Skelton,. He came to Canada at the age of 12 with his family and settled in Brucefield. During the war he worked on the Wartime Prices Board. He later owned a home appliance business. He was a past president of the Goderich Kinsmen Club and the K40. He also served on Goderich Town Council in 1954, 1955 and 1956. He was a member of 'Victoria Street. United .Church. On August 2, 3930 he married Muriel Alice Ribey in St. Marys, Ontario. She survives him. McCauley and Murray Hill. Flower bearers were Stanley Paquette and Charles Anstay. WILLIAM HENRY CULBERT William Henry Culbert of Mission, B.C. died in hospital in Mission on Monday, May 7 after a brief illness at the age of 92. Both positions are currently held by James Murphy, Playhouse founder, who announced his resignation effective at the end of the current 1979 Season. The voting' lists in urban areas are now closed and anyone left off those lists will not he able to vote May 22 Hicks said people wanting to make sure they were.on the list Hicks said there were isolated problems in the riding but pointed out many of the oversights by enumerators were cleared up. He said a section of voters in Clinton were not enumerated but that most of the 45,461 voters were listed in Huron - Bruce. Enumerators were paid 40 cents a name for the first 200 names of people hey e-n-urne-rated- and 60 cents a name for everything over 200 names.
