New books
look great
BY CAROLINE E. CASS
A good selection of new
arrivals at the Goderich
Public Library should
provide interesting
reading for various age
and interest groups. The
Elsa Books' are a series
by Anna Virin.
In Elsa's Bears Need
the Doctor, the Brown,
White, and Yellow Bears
all require medical at-
tention. They are com-
forted by an un-
derstanding doctor (Elsa
in disguise!) who treats
them kindly with gentle
care. A reassuring story
for any tiny tot. ,
As parents, you wonder
where kids' questions
come from. If you've ever
been asked • why cars
have license plates or
how a heavy airplane can
stay up in the air and
you're caught a little off -
.,_guard for answers, then
you need Charlie Brown's
Third , Super Book of
Questions and Answers.
It will give you the
aiiswe•rs to questions
about boats and planes,
cars and trains, buses,
helicopters, sleds and
other things that move.
With Charlie Brown,
Snoopy, Lucy, Sally,
Peppermint Patty, Linus,
Woodstock and the rest of
the Peanuts gang, you
and your family won't
ever be without an an-
swer!!
You'll be able to'stir up
some fun with your kids
from Betty ' Crocker's
Cookbook for Boys and
Girls. There are fun to
make and good to eat
treats that range from
snacks to special holiday
and party fgods to
homemade gifts, from the
kitchen.
Step-by-step directions
make the, making easy,
and dozens of colour
photographs plus how -to-
do -it drawings and tips
help young cooks learn
their way around the pots
and pans.
With long, carefree
days of summer fast
approaching Costumes to
Make by Peggy Parish
. might help fill summer
play activities. The book
includes simple , step -by=
step. instructions, sup-
plemented by many
diagrams and
illustrations, for making
fifty costumes, ranging
from historical dress and
storybook characters to
animal outfits.
Don't throw away that
box of odds and ends
you've been saving! A
broken toy, a piece of
driftwood, or some lef-
tover nuts and bolts may
be just what you need to
create your own art from
found objects.
The projects in Art
From Pound Objects are
designed to show some of
the inventive ways you
can use everyday objects
found at home or out of
doors. Black and white
photographs make • the
procedures easy to
follow.
