MRS. MYRTLE J.
HEDDLE
Mrs. Myrtle J. Heddle
of 1100 W. Stadium .Blvd.,
Ann- Arbor, Michigan;
formerly of Goderich,
died in St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital on May 3 at the
age of 87.
She was born in
Goderich on June 7, 1891
to Mr. and Mrs. William
Nivins.
On February 20, 1918
she married Mr. James
Heddle, who predeceased
her on January 31, 1960.
A resident of Ann Arbor
since 1925, she was a
member of the First
United Methodist Church,
and the Phoebe Beal
Circle of Kings
Daughters, Group No. 9.
Mrs. Heddle was em-
ployed for 16 years by
The Cook Spring Com:
pany, and retired in 1941.
She is survived by a son
and daughter-in-law,
Fred and Barbara Heddle
of Ann Arbor; two
grandchildren, Jim and
Donna Heddle; a niece,
Delphine Shoebridge of
Ann Arbor, with whom
she made her home; also
a sister, Mrs. Vern
Gledhill;of Goderich; and
many other nieces and
nephews.She was
predeceased by a
daughter Helen, in 1924.
The funeral service
was held Saturday, May 5
at Muehlig Funeral
Chapel with the Reverend
Fred B. Maitland of-
ficiating. Burial was in
Washtenong Memorial
Park, Ann Arbor.
Kinette Charter President Grace Paterson, this year's president, Gayle Purser and
past president, Lil Lougheed chat at the 1979 Zone Interclub hosted by the Goderich
Kinettes recently at the Goderich Legion Hall. There were 110 Kinettes and Kin
wives present from the Zone.
Read-a-thon student activity

This week at St. Mary's
School we have been
recovering . from
Education Week. The
Spring Festival which
was held on Thursday,
April 27, was a
tremendous success.
Many students are
participating in the Read-
a-thon for the Multiple
Sclerosis Society of
Canada.
The Grade 8 students
are preparing for their
Confirmation which will
be held on Sunday, May
27. Bishop McCarthy, a
native of Goderich, is
celebrating • his fiftieth,
year in the priesthood.
The Bishop attended St.
Peter's School which
became St. Mary's in the
19,60's. He will administer
Confirmation to our
present students.
The Grade 8 students
are also preparing for
their graduation. 'The

In the later part of
April the lodge held a
very successful Dessert
Card Party and, Bake
Sale. They also gave a
generous donation to the
local Cancer April
Appeal.
Tuesday May 1 Mrs.
Kathleen Cuthill of
Seaforth, District Deputy
President of Huron
District made her official
visit to the Goderich
lodge.
She was introduced by
Mrs. George Morley and
presented with a corsage
by Mrs. Myrtle Goodrick
and warmly welcomed to
the meeting. In her,
remarks she encouraged
the members to work to-
gether and continue to
support their many
charitable activities.
The members of the
Seaforth lodge werealso..
present and in a lovely
ceremony presented the
Goderich Kuhle Grand
Mrs. Irene-Harnack with
the travelling gavel and a
lovely bouquet of spring
flowers.
The lodge was
reminded the next
meeting would be the 70th
Birthday Anniversary of
Goderich lodge and••would
be celebrated in the form
of a Friendship night.
A social hour followed
the meeting when Mrs.
Elizabeth Sitter and the
May Committee served a
tasty salad smorgasbord
luncheon to about 60
Rebekahs who attended
this special event.
Graduation Committee is
having a "Black Cat"
sale to raise money for
their possible trip and
dinner.
The Grade 7 and 8
classes are taking health
hustle in their Physical
Education and Music
Classes. The Grade 7
class is reading .a novel
called "Shane". The
students are also writing
an essay on "The Year of
the Child
Mrs. Marshall, the
grade 1-2 teacher, has
returned to school after
giving birth to a baby
glThe. Kindergarten
children are learning
about the school in their
Social and Environ-
mental Studies. They are
also learning their letters
and numbers.
A student council is
being formed. There will
be representatives from
the Junior and Inter-
mediate divisions.
Projects will begin under
the Council's direction as
soon as possible.
A meeting to discuss
the new French
curriculum was held at
Clinton by the Huron
County Board of

Complex site deal is final

The site for a proposed
senior citzens complex at
the corner of West and
Waterloo Streets has
finally been purchased by
the town at a cost of
$205,000.
The monetary tran-
saction was finalized and
the deed registered after
Goderich. mayor Harry
Worsell and town clerk
Larry McCabe met with
town solicitor, Dan
Huronview
On April 3, Elsie
Henderson and the Lobb
family entertained the
residents at a family
night with a variety of
numbers.
The Over -90 Club was
held April 4. There was
music and refreshments
served.
Mary Broadfoot, Ken
Dale, Lorne Lawson and
Wilson McCartney en-
tertained the residents on
piano, guitar, mouth
organ and violin for a
delightful hour of music
on April 9.
Residents went on a
shopping spree last April
10 when Caravan Clothes
from Toronto brought in a
wide variety of clothes
for the residents to
chdose from.
Huronview held a "99
cent Movie" on April 11,
and screened "The Other
Side of the Mountain."
On Tuesday, April 17th
Family Night was held by
Mrs. Orville Storey and a
number of her students.
Many toe- tap.ping
numbers were per-
formed. In one number
"Cross -Country Square
Dancing" Jack Storey
played the guitar and
sang while the McQuaid
family played. violins.
Nelson Howe and Mrs.
Bailey provided the
music. Teachers for the.
group were Mrs. Gail
Glanville and Sherri
McCall.
The Birthday Party
was held on April 18th by
Crediton. The M.C. for
the afternoon was Gloria
Martin. A musical
number was played by
Maggie Clark and. Glen
and Lois Hodgins.
Refreshments were
served, and gifts were
presented.
On April 19th Warren
Whitmore, Art Finlayson,
Keith Sharp, Elgin Nott
and Gladys Van Egmond
came to Huronview to
entertain the. residents.
Many types of dancing
were displayed.

to begin the demoliton

A&P building, the former
BP station and two
houses on West Street.
One house on Lighthouse
Street is to be demolished
separately and the other
is to be sold to help offset
the cost of land
acquisition.
Following demolition,
the Ontario. Housing
,Corporation (OHC) will
conduct a final soils test
and then pay the town.
$155,000 for the site.
Tenders for construction
of the 53 unit rent -geared -
to -income building will
then be called and it is
hoped that ground will be
broken within three or
four months.
The difference between
what the town paid for the
site and what OHC paid
the town will be made up
by the selling of the one
house on Lighthouse
Street, left over money in
the budget from
demoliton costs, etc. and
by billing the town and
the townships of Colborne
and Goderich which
earlier agreed to a cost
sharing arrangement for
the project.
