Mr. and Mrs: Tunis
Kolkman celebrated their
45th wedding anniversary
on Friday, May 4 at the
Saltford Valley Hall.
About 250 guests in-
cluding their family of
nine children, sons and
daughters-in-law, 19
grandchildren and two
great-granddaughters
and other relatives,
neighbours and friends
gathered in the afternoon
and evening to visit and
extend best wishes. In the
afternoon many of the
guests were members of
a group called "Youth of
Yesterday" of which Mr.
and Mrs. Kolkman are
members.
During the sumptuous
dinner the children
presented Mr. and Mrs.
Kolkman with tickets for
a trip to Holland and the
grandchildren presented
them with -a gift of
spending money, which
all wa's a complete sur-
prise.
In the evening more
guests attended to extend
best wishes and besides
meeting and renewing
friendships with so many,
the Kolkmans received a
phone call from Mrs.
Kolkman's brother in
Holland and a telegram
from their brothers and
sisters in Holland. They
hope to see them soon as
some of their immediate
relatives will have an-
niversaries while the
Kolkmans are in Holland
on their visit.
Guests were present
from all around Goderich
area, Clinton, Toronto,
London, Lambeth, Grand
Rapids, Michigan and son
Bill and family from
Coaldale, Alberta.
Mr. and Mrs. Kolkman
were married in Holland
May 4, 1934 and came to
Canada in July 1951
settling in Ashfield and
then Colborne Township.
Their many friends in
Colborne extend
congratulations on this
their 45th anniversary
and wish them continued
.health andhappiness.
MUSIC A TALENT
It is always en-
couraging in this day and
age to hear of people who
are interested in music
and are putting forth an
effort to improve their
talents in this field.
Several Colborne
Township pupils were
successful in
examinations held
recently by Toronto
Royal Conservatory of
Music and we extend
congratulations to all who
achieved another step on
the ladder to success.

miller United Church
held their Thankoffering
meeting at the church
Wednesday, May 2nd at
2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Phyllis Fisher
chaired the meeting
which opened with a
hymn and the scripture
was read • by Mrs. Phyllis
Pitblado.
The guest speaker was
Mrs. Phyllis Cox who
gave a very interesting
and timely message on
"human rights". Mrs.
Gwen Dursr thanked the
speaker. Special music
by several members of
the Benmiller Church
Choir was very much
enjoyed. The offering was
received by Mrs. Maude
McBride and Mavis
Fisher. After the meeting
all enjoyed a social half
hour together.

LT. COL. AUSTIN
MOORE YOUNG, E.D.
Lt. Col. Austin Moore
Young, E.D. of 105 North
Street, Goderich died in
Alexandra Marine
General Hospital •on
Sunday, May 6 at the age
of 73.
He was born in Toronto
on May 9, 1905 to Mr. and
Mrs. William E. Young.
He attended Upper
Canada College, and
served overseas during
World War II: Enlisting
in Toronto with the Royal
Regiment of Canada in
September, 1939, he was
discharged in November
of 1945.
He married Helen
Elizabeth Garrow on
September 2, 1933 in
Goderich.
Lt. Col. Young was an
insurance manager, and
an active member of St.
George's ._A.ng.lican
Church as Sunday School
superintendent and
Chinch Treasurer.
He is .: survived by his
wife, Helen, of Goderich;
twor daughters, Mrs.
Nancy Proulx of Stam-
ford, Connecticut, and
Mrs. Patricia McCor-
mick of Muncie, Indiana;
six grandchildren,
Kathleen, Jacqueline,
and Matthew Proulx,
Benjamin, Austin, and
Andrew McCormick; a
sister, Mrs. Seth B.
Pepler, Toronto, and a
brother, Rupert Young,
England.
'The funeral was held on
Tuesday, May 8 at Stiles
Funeral Home in
Goderich, with the
Reverend. Robert J.
Crocker officiating.
Interment was in
Maitland Cemetery at
Goderich.
Pallbearers were
James Brunk, Maurice
Wilkinson, Benjamin
McCormick, and Peter
Trees to
be planted
With the coming of
spring, the Authority's
annual reforestation
program has begun.
Marginal and non-
productive lands are
planted either by hand or
with a mechanical tree
planter that has been.
specially constructed by
M.V. .A. staff. By the
end o May, 46,300 trees
will have been planted on
private property and
additional stock will be
used to begin the wildlife
management plantings at
the Wawanosh Valley.

BRIDAL SHOWER
A community bridal
shower was held in
Benmiller Church
Basement Monday
evening May 7 for Nancy
Fisher, daughter of
Herman and Ila Fisher of
Benmiller District. Her
wedding is planned for
Saturday, 'May 26 in
Benmiller United
Church.
After the- customary
assembling of neighbors
and friends and
visitation, a few contests
were enjoyed and the
bride-to-be was honored
with many beautiful and
useful gifts. Nancy
thanked the ladies for
their thoughtfulness and
best wishes and all en-
joyed a social time
together with lunch
served by the Benmiller
unit of the church. The
bride-to-be will be living
in St. Thomas.

We are all thankful that
the win -ter wasn't
especially severe here
and appreciate the return
to warmer weather of
spring. When Mother
Nature decks herself out
in the beautiful colors of
green with touches of
color here and there, in
blossoms and flowers,
people are able to busy
.themgelves in their
gardens and flower beds
and farmers are busy on
the land. It's a wonderful
world and a beautiful
time of the year. Let us be
truly thankful.
