Dear Editor:
Character and Num an
attitudes are passed on to
succeeding gener tions
only through edudating
by word, writing and
example. This truth is
self evident.
This idea was rejected
officially in the Soviet
Union' in 1948 when
Lamarckism became.
their official authority on
biology.
Karl Marr and
Friedrich Engels. were
staunch believers in
Lamarckism. It was the
foundation for com-
es
munism. This theory of
science claims the
"acquired charac-
teristics in humans could
be inherited by future
generations" - this theory
has been completely
repudiated by Mendel,
Western geneticist.
As y -e -t, therms is no
evidence that Soviet
party leaders have
dropped this false theory
of science.

the Victorian Era. It was

teaching morals and
values in the sense that
there is only one right
way.
Teachers respect the
wide variety of life styles
represented in their
classrooms, and have no
wish to antagonize
families by "teaching"
children something -)taw
or different.
Guiding is another
matter. The article in last
week's Signal -Star made
. it clear that "guiding" or
"exploring alternatives"
is considered the best
approach.
The press has no wish
to "stir up trouble" for
the teachers. This
reporter agrees that
Huron County teachers
are doing an excellent job
and supports and un-
derstands their reluc-
tance -to be caught in a
situation where they will
be at odds with the home
environment of their
students.

Dear Editor:
Please find enclosed a
page from a 1944
newspaper. _ Rather than
throw it out, perhaps it
could be shared by
reprinting it as we are
approaching 35 years
since D-day. For that
event many of us were
hurriedly rushed across
the Atlantic.
Is Ed. Sullivan still
living? In mid -page is an
r"nteresting article
recording his thoughts on
fi
Canadian women. If he is
still living, I wonder what
his thoughts are re-
MargaretTrudeau?
Received your March
29 issue. You have
provided a valuable
service by including your
'detailed brochure on
cancer. Much work has
gone into this.
I shall share this with
my-\ co-workers in the
medical field and others
who should be interested.
We enjoy receiving
your weekly paper and
are looking forward to
spending the occasional

Disappointed
Dear Editor:
I am a young and up-
coming photographer and
businessman One of the
fields I am entering is
High School Yearbook
photography.
In the past five J'nonths
I have mailed some 250
letters to 154high schools
here in south central and
south west' -n part 'of
Ontario.
Up until now I have
received only fifteen
replies. I think this is
gross ignorance upon the
parts of the schools and
their principals.
.It would cost them no
more than what it cost me
to mail a letter to them,
even if the letter said no.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kerry J. Newstead

Editorial was in order after all
Dear Editor:
It appears that the
editorial was quite in
order in referring to the
$60,000 item set aside in
the proposed budget for
the completion of the
Square project.
The item was placed in
the budget by the Works
and Engineering Com-
mittee'.
The minutes of April 16,
1979, council meeting
show that Councillor
Searis 'made a motion,
seconded by Reeve
Palmer, "That the B.I.A.
sidewalk project be
decreased by $22,000 in
•the 1979 budget (budget to
read $38,000) ".
_,You can only decrease
something that exists.
The only other" comment
necessary is that as a
taxpayer and councillor I
am keenly interested in
discovering in due course
how much more it is
going to cost you (and
me) to complete The.

stead done.'
A spade is after all a
'spade. Why not call it a
spade? Even if someone
should donate the money,
a group would still oppose
this,project. Presumably
a group opposed
