makes them disintegrate.

It is sometimes difficult

County gets new
housing manager
BY JOANNE
BUCHANAN
William G. Tugwell
officially took over duties
as housing manager for
the Huron County
Housing Authority, an
agent of the Ontario
Housing Corporation, on
April 9. He succeeds John
Lyndon who resigned
from that position in
March.
As housing manager,
Mr. Tugwell's job , in-
volves the renting and
leasing of all Ontario
Housing's senior citizens'
buildings in the county
and all of Ontario
Housing's rent -geared -to -
income family units in
Goderich, Clinton and
Wingham. This means
that all senior citizens
and low income families
in the county wanting to
take up residence in one
of Ontario Housing's
buildings, must apply to
Mr. Tugwell at the
Housing Authority's
office on Stanley Street in
Goderich.
Part of Mr. Tugwell's
job involves com-
municating with all the
town councils in the
county too. A county -wide
residency policy for
senior citizens' dwellings
has been adopted by the
town councils meaning
that senior citizens from
one town in the county
can be moved into senior
citizens' dwellings in

another town within the
county if they are willing.
Mr. Tugwell has
worked with the Ontario
Housing Corporation
since 1972. He is
originally from Toronto
and first worked at the
Corporation's head office
there. He was then made
maintenance supervisor
of District F. He says he
was in charge of main-
tenance supervision for
one housing project in
that district which had a
population bigger than
Clinton. Mr. Tugwell
lives in Clinton now with
his wife and three
children:
Before being appointed
as manager of the Huron
County Housing
Authority, Mr. Tugwell
had been working out of
Goderich for the past two
years as maintenance
supervisor with the
Ontario Housing Cor-
poration attatched to
Huron and Bruc.e Housing
Authorities. He says $1
million was spent in
Huron County alone last
year on repairs and
improvements. All of the
rent -geared -to -income
housing on South Street
received new flooi s,
rooves, doors and
aluminum siding. This
year houses on Cameron
the paint to dry.
Many of the fish under
six pounds that Ed and
Preston catch are eaten.
But the large or trophy
sized ones are kept,
skinned, stuffed and
mounted to be hung and
admired.
The ,t' i men say that
the water from Port
Albert to Bayfield is the
best fishing area for
salmon, brown trout and
rainbow( trout. Preoild knstow.

He only started fishing
seriously about three
years ago and has caught
over 200 fish during that
time. He goes fishing
every day when the
weather is good. He has
caught 23 rainbow trout
so far this year.
Preston was born with
a hearing problem but
this obviously hasn't
affected his ability to
fish. The first time he
went fishing this year,
there were about 30 other
fishermen in the same
area. Two of these
fishermen caught one fish
each. The others had no
luck at all. Preston
caught three. After
,awhile you begin to learn
all the best spots for
fishing but he isn't giving
away any of his secrets,
iv says. Eventually he
would like to work for a
government fish hat-
chery.
For the time being, Ed
and Preston are content
with the satisfaction that
comes to them from
hunting and fishing and
they are proud of their
ability to preserve their
prize catches. If they can

manager, Mr. Tugwell is
responsible for tenders,
both public and short
term (or those up to
$5,000), to make repairs
and improvements to
these buildings.
A maintenance

two will be hired for

couple of months, says
Mr. Tugwell.
On April 3, members of
the Maple Leaf Chapter
iODE met at the home of
Miss G. Hunter.
Mrs. C. Edwards
reported a successful Red
Cross Campaign . in
March. It appears that
this year's fund-raising
will surpass last year's
which netted $3,705. in the
Goderich area. All the
volunteers' who assisted
with the campaign were
commended by the
Chapter.
The members were
pleased to learn that Mrs.
G. "L. Royal' and Mrs. P.
Rivers plan to attend the
National Convention in
Ottawa.
Following the short.
busirf'ess meeting, a mini -
auction sale was held
with auctioneers being
Mrs. R. J. Smith, Mrs. G.
McManus and Mrs. R.
Hughes. ' Refreshments
were then served by the
