W.I. elects officers for 1979-1980..
The April meeting of the
• Goderich Branch of the
W.I. was opened -by the
Ode and the Collect with
Mrs. A. Schram
presiding.
Fifteen members
answered the roll call by
payment of dues. Mrs. G.
Taylor presided at the
piano. •
Mrs. D. Riehl gave the
minutes, the treasurer's
report and the com-
munications.
Letters were received
from Premier Davisand
Jack Riddell about ' a
petition signed by W.I.
members concerning the
closure of hospital beds.
A bus trip will be taken
by the W.I. ladies on June
7 to Erland Lee Home,
Stoney Creek.
A donation was voted to
be sent to the Cancer
Society.
The annual District
Rally will be held at
Holmesville an May 28.
Birthday greetings
were sung for Mrs. 13.
Crawford,

The Ahmeek Chapter
IODE meeting was held
on April 2 at the home of
Mrs. A. Hugill. Mrs. Max
Cutt, vice-regent,
presided. The flags were
brought forward by the
Flag Bearer Mrs. B.
Ruffell.
The treasurer's report
was read and accepted as
read. Mrs. M. Auld read
the correspondence.
Permission was granted
to hold a Tag Day on June
15 and a letter was
received from Mrs.
Dorothy Vogle of the
London War Memorial
Children's Hospital ex-
pressing appreciation for
the lovely quilts received,
which were made by Mrs.
C. Cutt.
. . The May 7 meeting is to
be held at the home of
Mrs. J. Wilson, RR5
Goderich.
It was decided ,that the
delegates to . the con,
vention in Hamilton on
April 18 be allowed to
purchase books suitable
for school prizes.

a very interesting talk on
child and adult retardees
from Goderich, Clinton,
Vanastra and Varna.
There are 25 different
.rograms and 56 persons
involved. The Queen

Elizabeth School and the
Adult Horne are those
mostly involved in the
integration process. The
Town of. Goderich helps
fund this project and it is
expected .. the province
would .contribute in the
Book Committee, Mrs. G.

Mrs. J. Ryan and Mrs. F.
Barker and Resolutions,
Mrs. G. Morley.
A Planning meeting for
the 1979-80 executive was
held in MacKay Hall on
April 12 at 1 p.ni.
Mrs. Schram thanked
the members for their
support and co-operation
in the past year and
closed the meeting with
the Queen and the W.I.
Grace.

hostesses served_ lunch,
after which a silent
auction was held.

Mailmen observe their
15th anniversary
"Neither rain nor sleet
nor snow...,'
• Goderich's mailmen
celebrated 15 years of
letter carrier service in
this town last week with a
small luncheon at the
post office on East Street.
Letter carrier service
in Goderich began on
April 13, 1964. Before
that, all mail was picked
up by residents, who each
had a box at, the post
office.
Six of the original letter
carriers :are still
delivering mail. They are
Bob Hoy, Roy Straughan,
John Doherty, Herb
Davidson, Bill Reid and
Ron Barker. One of the
originals, George Currell,
is retired now but he
joined'in the celebrations
with the others last
Wednesday.
The other letter
carriers or mailmen are
Glen MacCuspey, Jim
Koster, John Sturdy,
Bruce Crawford and Jack
Brodie.
The 11 mailmen
combined cover the
whole town and their
points of call (number of
houses and businesses
which they deliver mail

March of this year.
Postmaster Mel
Farnsworth says that
expression about rain and
sleet and snow is true. He
says he can count on one
hand the number of days
the mailmen have missed
delivery because of
weather in his five years
with the Goderich Post
Office.
