Rollie Rollston and Dave The late second period The Goderich Green and Parent Midgets, the Ontario Minor Hockey Association "BB" champions for 1978-79, defeated the Goderich Oldtimers 8 . - 4 in an exhibition game here last Friday. The game was the last of the_ season in the Goderich Arene'rand gave the Oldtimers, who arereparing for a tournament in Florida, and local hockey fans a chance to honour the Goderich midget team for their recently won provincial championship. At the opening ceremonies, the Old- timers presented souvenir mugs to the midgets and Oldtimer team captain Ron Allin presented an engraved plaque commemorating the Green and Parent team's championship to Larry Madge, captain of the Midgets. The plaque will hang in a place ,.of honour at the sponsor's place of business. They game was played under Oldtimers rules, with no contact and no slapshots, and provided some fine passing and skating and offensive hockey by both teams. The Midgets used their speed to ad- vantage, jumping off to a three goal lead in the first period. Mike Wedlock scored twice on plays With and then Jim Costello notched an unassisted goal to stake the midgets to their early lead. The Oldtimers came right back with three straight goals of their own. Dave Wilkinson got the first Oldtimer's goal on passes from Ron Allin and Ken' Lee. Paul Stahl then beat Steve Gallow with a shot from the point after taking a pass from an older Gallow named Bill. Early in the second period Ken Lee combined with Dave Wilkinson for the Oldtimer's third goal. The Midgets regained the lead with two goals scored by Dan Maillet, both assisted by Larry Madge, before the end of the second period. The Green and Parent team .outscored the Oldtimers 3 - 1 in the third period to wrap up thea victory. Don Elliott scored for the midgets on a pass from Larry Madge but Ken Lee got that one back on a play with Don Masse and Del Bedard. There were only four minor penalties in the entertaining game, two to _l inR4n a•te---,141-rr--Gl-er-n-en t---.eachx,ea m. ockey season over - roller skaters' turn The 1978-79 hockey season finally came to a close in Goderich last Friday as the Green and Parent Mustangs, Ontario BB champs, played the , Goderich Oldtimers. Playing under Old- timer rules the young midgets recorded an 8-4 win as they helped the Oldtimers prepare for their Florida 'tour- nament. The Oldtimers leave for Florida, Thursday, and after a period of ad- justing to the climate will begin tournament play, Sunday. The ice has been removed from the Community Centre this week and roller skating enthusiasts can dust off the skates as the Centre will be open for roller skating this Friday. Skating will be held Friday from 7-10 p.m. and from 7-11 p.in. on both Sa-turdar ani Sunday. There will also he one , weeknight of skating on Wednesday. molson, MacDonald wins seventh straight title Charlie MacDonald won his seventh straight championship by defeating Louis Stadelmann two games straight!!! In winning the Club championship Charlie won all four of his play-off games and lost only one of his 25 season games! Louis Stadelmann, who had his finest year in becoming the club run- ner-up, stated that Charlie makes no weak moves to capitalize on. In Level 2 semi-finals Bob Dick and Bob Fit- zjaMes are having a very long, close battle. The series has now been forced into a fourth game as the series is now tied at each Win or lose, Bob Fitzjames has certainly proved he belongs in the second Level by giving a strong player like Bob Dick such a battle. This is Bob Fitzjames' first year in Level 2. The Third Level Finals are underway with Steve Hammill coming out on the winning end of a 31/2 hour game against Kirk Lyndon. Game two of this series gets . underway Wednesday night. . In Level 4 we have� a good match -up wl'fh T Reid playing Oweti Moriarty, Tim and Owen ended the season in first and second place in their Levels. This series is scheduled to begin Mrs. Fritzley presented the FritzleY Memorial Trophy, to Don Barraclough at the Goderlch Minor Hockey Association banquet, Tuesday.
