Jim Drehmann, a member of Court Benmiller of the Canadian Order of
Foresters, presented the Goderich chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society
with a cheque for $3,300 Saturday night. The money was raised by the

Zone
commander
makes visit

BRANCH 109
The April meeting of
the Goderich Legion
Branch 109 welcomed the
Zone Commander,
George Campbell of
Clinton, on his annual
visit to the branch.
In his remarks, the
Zone Commander
suggested,that the branch
hold a seminar to
acquaint the associate
members who qualify
because they are the son
or daughter of a veteran,
with the important part
that they can play in the
branch.
Comrade Campbell
stated that the delegates
to the provincial con-
vention will•press for the
right of the associate
members to hold elected
office at branch level. At
present associate
members may only vote
and hold appointed of-
fices in a branch. .t
The Zone Commander
also congratulated
Branch 109 on their
twinning with Legion
posts in Bay City,
Michigan.
Workmen at Sky Harbor airport put the fi shing
touches on,this Twin Otter aircraft Monday before
the plane took off on the first leg of its trip to
Sweden. The airplane was in Goderich to.be painted
in the colours of Swed Air, the firm that owns the
aircraft and will operate it in a commercial fleet in

in the turkey plan's base
qualifying years of 1966,
1967 and 1968 will be
granted free quota based

designated as the branch
delegates to the
provincial convention at
Sudbury in May.
The meeting passed a
motion to send a letter to
each fraternal associate
member informing him
of the timing of the
payment of dues and his
obligations to the branch.
A motion to sponsor
Legion pee wee baseball
at a cost of $259 was
accepted.
The membership
present approved the
purchase of a new
duplicating machine for
the Legion office.
The property chairman
was granted permission
to proceed with the re-
decoration of the Jubilee
room.
Comrade Howard
Carroll, the ;chairman of
public speaking, reported
that Marg Conlon will
represent the branch in
the contest at the..district
level in Hanover.
The branch president
reminded the members of
the district convention at
Branch 6 in Owen Sound
on April 22.
The chairman of the
nominating committee,
Comrade Eric Johnstone,
presented the following
slate of officers for the
coming Legion year:
president -R: Mugford;
first vice -W. Sheardown;
second vice -William
McCallum; secretary -S.
Youngblut; treasurer -D.
McArthur and sergeant
at arms -A. Blackwell.
Further nominations
and the election of of-
ficers and committee
chairmen will be held at
the next' general meeting
in May.
