Canoeists brave storm in Clinton
Kinsmen race on Maitland River
By Jim Fitzgerald
The Bunny Bundle
Canoe Race in London
may be the world's
largest canoe race, but
the Clinton Kinsmen
Canoe Race down the
Maitland River last
Sunday will" certainly be
one of the coldest ever.
Some 75 canoeists in 42
entries Struggled through
deep snow to get to the
river, and then braved
minus four degree
temperatures, a
snowstorm, and icy
waters to finish the third
annual event that iaises
funds for Cystic Fibrosis.
But despite the bone
chilling day, no one was
injured or suffered from
exposure, -although two.
canoes did upset. •Many of
the other contestants
-battled ice -covered
paddles, ' and frozen
fingers before the trip
was over.
Clinton Kinsmen
organizer Arnold Riley
said he was very pleased
with the turnout • of
canoeists, despite the
terrible day, and the
charity event will
probably realize about
$750 the same as last
year.
First to complete the 14 -
mile course from Auburn
to the Forrester's Bridge
at Holmesviile in a record
time, over the fast water,
was the Junior team
entrants of Rick Kloss
and Tony Gibbings, who
had the fastest time of 78
minutes.
Other winners included

All paths lead
to your Honda
dealer. And with good
reason. Honda lawn-
mowers, outboards, generators,
tillers, General Purpose engines
and water pumps are making news
as powerful,economical alter-
- natives to the competition.
That's because at the heart of
every Honda power product is the
world famous Honda engine.
But we don't stop there. All major
parts are Honda parts. Unlike
some other manufacturers.
The result: maximum
efficiency, reliability and long life.
Take our lawnmowers. Our
exclusive Roto-Sto9•clutch system*
provides additional safety
by allowh g you to stop
the blade in seconds,
without stopping the
engine.
The castaluminum
deck is specially designed to
create the utmost suction for
cleaner cutting. And yet, they're
surprisingly ea,sy to operate.
Honda 7.5 h'p and 10 hp out-
boards are equally outstanding. We
offer the only 4 -stroke water-
cooled engines in Canada. Using
regular gas, they require no oil "
mixing. Very efficient. Very clean.
Very quiet.Very dependable.
Honda portable generators are
great for home, cottage, farm,
camp and
construction. Depending
on the model, you'll get 21,2 to
7 hours of continuous, dependable
operation per tankful with 300 to
3500 watts of power.
Honda tillers are super power-
ful yet quiet, with chain drive
transmission, powertake-off, safety
clutch and folding handle.
Finally, there are our General
Purpose engines and water pumps.
