Want floor ' lens
for airport terminal
A lengthy discusion
regarding the proposed
airport terminal and the
possible construction of a
larger terminal -hangar
facility by a private in-
dustry, took place when
the Goderich Airport
Committee met on
Wednesday evening,
March 21.
The outcome of the
dicussion was a motion
that the committee ap-
prove an expenditure not
to exceed $250 for floor
plans for the new ter-
minal. A report from the
ad hoc committee con-
cerning the airport
terminal as read by Dick
Wright was received by
the committee as printed.
Airport co-ordinator Ed
Scruton reported to the
committee that Carlyle
Bannister of the
Bluewater Truck Centre
had given the airport use
of one of the fire fighting
carts with the equipment
to be charged at the
committee's cost. The
committee passed a
motion authorizing that
the gquipment be
charged and that the
secretary, Ken Hunter,
check with the town's
insurance agent regar-
ding the cost of charging.
A lengthy discussion
about the construction
and costs of a new run-
way at the airport took
place with a motion that
the committee approach
the provincial govern-
ment at the earliest
possible instance to
enquire about the
availability off grant
money for a new runway.
This motion was carried
even though committee
chairman, Don Wheeler,
informed the rest of the
committee that he had
talked to Transport
Canada with regards to
the availability of grants
and had found that there
are none available in the
near future.
Co-ordinator Scruton
stated that at the time of
his hiring, he was asked if
he was interested in
obtaining his pilot's
licence. He has started
flying lessons and asked
if the committee would
grant any financial
consideration. No
motions were recorded
regarding this request.
The co-ordinat.rr was
instructed by the com-
mittee .to purchase tie -
down ropes as required.
The committee passed a
motion that the yearly
rates for tie -down fees be
set at an amount equal to
11 months rent with the
renewal date being
March 1, 1979 of each
year.
The committee moved
that Commissioner of
Works, Ken Hunter,
investigate the structural
adequacy of the town
owned hangar and report
back to the committee.
A discussion took place
about the location of the
temporary hangar owned
by Mr. Stewart and Mr.
Machan. It was the
consensus of the com-
mittee that the location of
the hangar be left to co-
ordinator Scruton.

Goderich Township meeting

Ken Hunter gave a brief
report on the status of the
tree trimming at the end
of the runway. He stated
that the actual trees
should be counted, within
a week's time and the
necessary information
forwarded to the town
solicitor.
A letter from Donald
Ross advising the
committee that he has
decided to take his air-
craft out of the covered
storage area at the air-
port effective the end of
March 1979, was received
and filed.
A letter from Huron
County Council advising
the committee that
council has authorized a
grant of up to 50 per cent
of operating deficit of the
Goderich Airport to a
maximum of $23,000 for
1979, was also received
and filed.
The meeting adjourned
with a decision to hold the
next meeting on April 18
at 7:30 p.m. in the town
hall council chambers.
Want building permit
Goderich Township,
Cauncil listened to
several deputations when
it met on March 19.
Mr. and Mrs. Hartman
were present at the
meeting to again seek
approval of a building
permit to increase an
existing commercial
operation. No motions
were recorded regarding
this.
Fraser Aylsworth was
present to explain his
severance request.
Council passed a motion
to invite Gary Davidson,
Huron County planner, to
a meeting to discuss_
development on lot 10,.
concession one regarding
this severance request.
Mr. Gemeinhardt and
Mr. Wallis were present
to solicit support in their
„land severance request
also. Regarding this
request, council passed a
motion that the Reeve
attend the hearing on
behalf of the township.
Spence Cummings,
Huron. County
Development Officer,
was present to explain
the aims and work of the
County Development
Committee with em-
phasis on industrial,
commercial and tourism
areas. •
Blake Edwards of the
Ministry of Natural
Resources was present to
discuss projects of the
Ministry, in particular
those in the Wingham
district.
Mr. Harris and Mr. Cox
were present to explain
the development of
Conklin's plan of sub-
division on lots 109 and
105 Maitland concession.
Council passed a motion
that streets C and D be
joined into one street
rather than be left as two
short dead ends and that
the rest of the plan as
presented on March 19
and dated March 16, be
approved in principle on
full services.
John Seaman: had a
poultry claim and af-
di avit.' The claim was
investigated by C. Ellis
who estimated the total
loss at 30 pounds: Council
moved that Scaman's
poultry claim be denied.
Robert Storey's plan of
subdivision for lot 27,
concession 11, as revised,
was approved in principle
by council.
Council moved that the
Goderich Branch of the
I.O.D.E. be given per-
mission to hold a tag day
at Zehr's.
The Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority
presented the Shore Line
Study Report to council.
Council passed a motion
that Ian Deslauriers be
invited to attend a council
meeting on either April 16
or May 7 at 8:30 p.m. to
discuss the report. •
By-law number 3, 1979,
a by-law to regulate land
use and the buildings
thereon was given three
readings, and passed by
council.
Accounts totalling over
$11,000 were ordered paid
by council.
Tenders for crushing,
hauling and stockpiling
gravel were received
from Lavis (15,000 yards
at .$1.54 and stockpile
3,000 yards at .99) and
Radford (15,000 yards at
$1.60 and stockpile 3,000
yards at $1.05). Council
passed a motion to accept
the Lavis tender. Pollard
Brothers tender for
calcium at . $103.50 per
flake ton, was accepted
by council also.
Building permits were
-issued to R. Fulcher for a
manure storage tank, to
William Chowen• for a
storage shed, to Philip
Gemeinhardt for a sugar
shanty and to Bluewater
Centre for four cabins.
