The Mouse Magnifique is a cheese taster
BY
CAROLINE E. CASS
Iff you enjoyed the
adventures of Paddington
last week, then you'll
want to be sure to laugh
along with the antics of
the characters in; ,the
following picture books.
Anatole, world-famous
Cheese Taster, hailed as
the Mouse Magnifique,
fa,ces a perplexing
problem deep down in-
side a big grand piano1
He longs for a piano of his
own until he finds one in
the Musee de la Musique.
Alas, the tiny treasure
belongs to the Museum.
Can it ever be his? Find
out how brave Anatole
helps a hundred Paris
orphans and is •sur-
prisingly rewarded at the
same time in "Anatole
and the Piano". ,
Muffin finds out what
an awful feeling it is to
have his eyes covered by
a'bandage when he gets a
cinder in his eye. But,
Muffin can hear and what
he hears is shown in the
pictures and you can
provide the appropriate
noise and have a won-
derful time doing so.
What do you think goes
squeak, squeak, squeak
in "The Noisy Book?"
In contrast to ad-
mirable Anatole and
Muffin, Ralph and Yak
find themselves in all
sorts of trouble in "Worse
Than Rotten, Ralph" and
"Yakety Yak Yak Yak".
These books have a
comic -strip flavour with
their wildly coloured
illustrations and slang -
like dialogue.
Yak drives all his
riders crazy with his
incessant talking, until he
drives his taxi right into a
big hole! Yak thinks
nobody has time to listen
anymore, but Walrus and
Rabbit and Camel think
differently!
Unlike Yak, Ralph
makes up his mind to stay
out of trouble for once.
Then along comes a gang
of alley cats who call him
"Softy". To prove he
knows how to be rotten,
he leads the group off
jumping, scaring,
smashing, throwing pies
and chasing poodles.
When it's all over, Ralph
thinks maybe good is best
after all.
Ronald Dahl, of
"Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory" fame
will provide you with
more laughter and
suspense in a new book

"The Enormous
Crocodile". The Enor-
mous Crocodile "would -
like a nice juicy little
child" to eat. Muggle-
Wump the Monkey hopes
the buttons and buckles
all stick in the horrid
hoggish croc's throat and
choke him to death for
such an idea.
Fortunately, all the
jungle animals rally and
foil the Enormous
Kingsbridge Kurriculurn
Crocodile's clever tricks.
Just as four children are
about to go squish,
crunch, gollop, Trunky
the Elephant saves the
day! Trunky .des to it
that the Enormous.
Crocodile will never
again feast in the jungle
with a most surprising
trick of his own.
