Honorable J. A. C. Auld,
Ontario Minister of
Energy and R. B. Taylor,
Chairman of the Board of
Ontario Hydro.
As he highlighted the
activities of an. eventful
year, OMEA president,
Murray A. Greene,
commented on the
Ass-oc-iation's..- in-
terventions in several
public hearings, paying
tribute to those involved
in the continuing
monitoring of the
hearings and . the
development and
presentation of OMEA
positions.
"I .- believe that the
interests of the municipal
utilities in Ontario and
our customers' have been -
and continue to be, well
served by our
representatives", Greene
stated.
Continuing, Greene
said, "And if this has
been an eventful year,
what about next year?
.What about the next two
days? We are about to
consider and either adopt

significant report. We
will be deciding on a
course of action that will
map out at least for the
next few years, the route
this organization will
take."
"We must therefore be
alert to possible• alter-
natives, aware of the
consequences and insure
that our 'decisions . will
serve the best interests of
our members and their
customers." •
In closing Greene
emphasized that,
"Whatever new
challenges we must face,
whatever new directives
we may take, the need to
work together is obvious.
."We must make
greater use of the
association's resources,'
but we should• also make
certain that the resources
are more than adequate
to meet the increasing
needs of our member

National Farmers
Union vice-president, Bill
Dascavish, says that
control of Canada's
economy by foreign
multi -national cor-
porations makes it im-
practical for any
Canadian government to
effectively control
unemployment on in-
flation.
Dascavish described
the recent sale of Ponco
Poultry by the B.C.
government to Cargill
Grain Company of
Minnesota as a "further
example of foreign
takeover of Canada's
agriculture processing
industry,".
The NFU vice-
president charged that in
addition to practically all
of Canada's automobile,
aircraft, rubber,
petroleum, electrical
apparatus and tobacco
industries now being
foreign. owned, the
agricultural processing,
forest products, retail
and wholesale industries,
are now also being bought
up by non -Canadians.
Dascavish called for
firmer public control and
effective economic
management in Canada.
