they can plead the "fifth
amendment". That -1'S Qne
reason why organized
crime exists! The
American constitution is
structured on- this value
concept "the sovereignity
off the individual."
Canadians do not
believe in this concept!
They have a different
sense of values.
Canadian law is based
on the sovereignity of
parliaments, as
represented by those
elected to rule.
Parliaments alone have
rights!
The rights of the in-
dividual are determined
by and at the discretion of
parliaments. No in-
dividual Canadian has
what can be referred to
as inherent human
rights! (Neither does
anyone else).
A Canadian enjoys
human rights because of
the benevolence of
Parliaments.
In Canada, - an in-
idual can -be arrested
and held in custody by an
order of Parliament. It
has been done! The
Guzenko Affair in 1945
proved that! (To protect
all people).
This is not possible in
the U.S.A., Congress, nor
the President has the
power to restrain the
individual without per-
mitting him his "Day in
court" (where he can
plead the fifth amend-
ment). -
Canadian children
might favour the
American concept! That
is because they are im-
mature. It took a
thousand years of living
to find some wisdom, not
just two hundred years of
individual self-interest.
- Most Canadians today
favour a complete break
away from- British ties.
That is natural and
correct under the cir-
cumstances.
What many Canadians
fail to realize is the
essential difference in
how they establish
values. This is an
inheritance from British
experience that goes
back to 1066 - and before!
Most Canadians are
brain washed by
American TV, listening to
their President. We
Canadians must have a
separate "Bill of Human
Rights"? As though no
"rights" exist today in
Canada - Dieffy is wrong!
Whatthey fail to un-
derstan,d is that the broad
"rights" enjoyed by
'Canadians are derived
only through the effort of
those they choose to elect
to public office!
The strength of a
country -should be derived
from those who speak
with legitimate authority
- those who RULE•! In
Canada, we, the in-
dividuals, determine who
will rule and what rights
we will enjoy by ,electing
those who we feel should
best serve the interests of
all Canadians!
Yes, there is a form of
democracy in the Soviet
Union! It is based on
"democracy" con-
veniently used by service
clubs like the Lions,
Kinsmen, Rotary
International etc. (used
. only for an example!)
You can in the Soviet
Union' argue about what
your community should
have and elect somebody
to propose your wishes at
the top levels of Gover-
nment.
But wait! Like the
President of your' local
club, once a project is
discussed and after a
"show of hands" the
matter is Closed! You go
out and sell tickets - even
if you were originally
against the project ac-
cepted by the majority.
Opposition ceases.
In the Soviet Union,
once -the "party" (who
represent a single class,
workers) decides what
will be done, you have
"had it". You must fall in
line and hope that at the
next election, your voice
might be heard!
Will they apply the
American concept of
human rights where the
individual is permanently
sovereign? Not very
likely!
For that matter,
