'The ,mighty Foresters maintained their perfect record and first place as they totally dominated AM & G Hospital No. 1 by the score of 11 - 1. It was vice -skip Jim Hawkin's turn to excel as he provided the example for his teammates to copy which they did expertly. The outgunned healers Rod Graham watches intently as a rock approaches the house in bonspiel action at the Maitland Country Club, Saturday. Graham and his team members Daye Smith, Melanie Ditstow and Glenn Gosse finished in second place in the event sponsored by GDCI. (photo by Dave Sykes) GDI car-lers Mold osel Last Saturday the Goderich District Collegiate held its annual curling bonspiel, in which six teams of students competed for the Kin- smen Trophy and for prizes donated by the G.D.C.I. Students council and several local businesses. Although the ice was quite heavy due to the warm weather, each team played three six end games, with points allottedfor each win, ends taken and score. The winning team was skipped by Kevin Dykstra. He and his team of Mike Paquette, Greg Wilson and Scott Collins amassed a total of 461/2 points in winning all three; games. In ,iecond place was a team skipped by Rod, Graham. His team members w,.ere Dave Smith, Glenn Gosse and Melanie Dustow. Tied for third place were Kevin Bundy and Jim Crawford. got good games from Dennis Miskie and Jim McCaul but the Forester foursome just proved to be too strong again. The Forester team of Cam Bogie, ' Jim Hawkins, Ralph Foster and Jamieson Ribey have now played and defeated every team in the league. For that sweep alone this game deserves the game of the,,yreek•honours. Normally a record like the Foresters would mean a huge lead in the standings but not so in the Industrial League. The surprising Huron Health Unit is only one game back of the top team and ready to assume first place if the streaking Foresters ever falter. •.•iThe healthy ones recorded their fourteenth victory.of the season by dumping the Goderich Legion unit 8 - 2. The Health Unit's most consistent curler all season has been Laurie Ginn and once again she provided the momentum needed to overcome a fine Legion team. Health Unit skip Jack McKinnon as well as Legion representative Phil Turner were also out- standing on the ice. Third place in this tough league once again belongs to the GDCI teachers- as they over- came their old rivals the local 1863 foursome 11 - 5. Bill Worsell and Donna Doidge • were both un- canny in their accuracy missing only three shots between them all night. When this kind of ac- curacy.. is_ joined rby _Lady, ..• Luck as it was in the early part of the game victory is almost certain. The strong 1863 foursome showed signs of their skill most dramatically in the seventh end when the Teachers relaxed for a minute and were promptly handed a four ender as 'Profit, Crawford, ' Falkiner and Kellogh all made their shots.• Ron Ritchie's team from Victoria School had a real' shoot out with Bruce Erskine's V & G 'squad. The final tally Ritchie 10 Erskine 9. The Victoria Teachers were the opportunists in this match as they scored two four enders while the financial 'team fell one shot of a tie in the final end as they scored four. Teacher Barb Lade was very sharp for the win- ners while her coun- terpart Eleanor Erskine was strong for the losers. The slumping Mit.- chernore Family shook up their team last week and it worked. Del Mit- chemore took over as skip and turned in an outstanding performance to defeat the Elementary Teachers 11 - 1. The Mitchemore team had constant pressure on the Teachers and teacher skip Diane Budnark was hard pressed to keep the score down. ` Demoted Don Mitchernore also curled extremely well in his new position as vice - skip. The G.D.C.I. Vikings and the AM&G Hospital No. 2 team provided the most exciting match of the evening as they battled it out right down to the last end. The game was tied after seven ends but a superb team effort in the final end allowed the young Vikings to record a well earned 8 - 5 triumph. Dawn West- brook and Judith Anne Murray were very crisp for the hospitalitesbut the probelms of A&G Hospital continued ven in the curling rink as both hospital clubs went down to defeat. On the other hand, the struggling Vikings appear to be heating up as the championship bonspiel approaches. Don Coughlan and Dave Cloet were key men, in the Viking victory. An outstanding per- formance by Champion Sales Office skip Pete Wanner cooled off the Assessment Office's hot streak. Wanner and company recorded a• convincing 10 - 5 triumph over a strong opponent. Bill Hayward arrived late but curled expertly once he found the curling club. Assessment office cor- nerstones Sue Ritchie and Jim Bell asked me not to mention them so I won't. It was two Bolans to one as Jim and Paul ganged up on mom but Sylvia was up to the challenge as she led the Champion Girls to their fifth win of the season as they overpowered their colleagues the Champion office men 8 - 4. Skip • Bolan got excellent support from Marg DeBolt, Lois Oatman and Alma Vollick while the male Bolans got a good game from Barry Page. The defeat hurt as Jim Bolan explained, "it is one thing to be henpecked at home but when it happens at the curling club too, well that's just going too far"! MacDonald regains lead over Stadelmann in chess club play Last week, Charlie. MacDonald moved back into first place with his twenty-first win of the season. Brian Miller also picked up a win to move a little closer to Steve Harding in third place. Jim Kingsley won a long tough game to strengthen his hold on the last first le.v. el..position..._ In Level 2, Doug Brindley won yet another game to hold onto second place and increase his lead on first place in the most ' improved player category. • Judy Brindley put together an excellent game to upset a Level 1 player. If that wasn't enough Judy went on to win her second game of the evening also. Judy's two wins moved her up to 'second place ' in Level 4. Mike Cox picked up his seven-th win and also a draw to increase his win - loss mark by eight points. Larry Gower had a big - evening- corning.-u•p--with: "three wins and a draw.
