Two members of the Murphy family were 'recipients of O.E.C.T.A. public
speaking awards for the Huron -Perth Separate Schools recently. Paul
Murphy of St. Mary's Separate School in Goderich placed first in the in-
,,termediate class with his speech, Sportsmanship in Sport and Katharine

A greater part of the
Wawanosh side of the village
was pretty well under water
on Sunday due to the mild
temperature the past few
days. Several families had
basement recreation rooms
damaged _vile severely.
This writer was out 'Sunday
and took a dozen or so snaps
of different situations.
Sympathy is extended to
relatives of Gordon Kirkland
who died very suddenly at
his home near Lucknow on
Monday night. The funeral
took place on Thursday after-
noon.
Sympathy is also extended
to relatives of Mrs. Ben Com-
fort (nee Myrtle Blake) who
died on Saturday morning in
St.. Catharines Hospital.She
had been in hospital for some
time and recently contracted
pneumonia. Mrs. Comfort
grew up in the Crewe com-
munity.
Mrs. Cecil Blake spent a
few days recently with Mrs.
Annie Kilpatrick in Lucknow.
Gordon Anderson under-
went hip surgery in London
on Tuesday and will be
hospitalized several 'days.
Lucknow Pee Wees travel-
led by bus on Sunday to
Streetsville. Eldon Austin
accompanied his son, Mike
and Jamie Bere.
We welcome to the com-
munity Mr. and Mrs. Doug
Cook and baby. They are
residing in' the Sherwood
zhouse the south of the'
(' village.
Mrs. Margaret Roulston of
Vanastra visited one day last
week with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Goldie Carter.

Several little ones from the
village were registered for
kindergarten at Brookside on
Thursday. They were: (fath-
er's name in brackets) Lillian
MacAuley (Rick); Peggy
Brindle (Russ); Tanya Hod-
ges (Tey); Tim McNee
(Ken); Joel Wright (Bob) and
Brad Park (Bill). There is a
large registration this year,
with about. 40 registering.
Sympathy is extended to
Gord West, an employee of
Dawson Plumbing on the
sudden death of his father,
on Saturday evening as the
result of • a motor vehicle
accident.
Dick and Noreen Park add
Dave and Sharon Dawson are
enjoying some time in sunny
Jamaica where they are
renting a villa.

part in the . program.
Theme for the service
was "Spiritual Growth". •
Mrs. Myrtle ' Kerr
opened the S'ervice with a
reading "Voices of
Africa". Mrs.' Phyllis
Scott played the piano
and this part 'was closed
with the song "Kum Ba
.Yah" •sung by all.

the "Eye Catchers" 4-H
Club was held March 1, at
the home of their leader
Mrs. Bev. Van Ninhuys
where discussion on
selection and care of
scarves was held, and the
many ways to tie and
wear a scarf. The leaders.•
demonstrated the cutting
and sewing"a bias scarf.
The fourth meeting of
the "Eye Catchers" was
held March 5th at the
home of Mrs. Olga Bell.
The selection and' care of
purses and shoes was
discussed: 'The over
stuffing of a purse was.
also discussed and the
members had a great
time emptying their
purses. Work was» also
done on their'accessories.
The next meeting will
be held March 8th at the
home of Mrs. Bev Van

Jesus, we should believe
and trust, said Father:
The church is a house of
many bodies. Each
Christian should have a
sense of mission and have
a knowledge of Christ, he
continued. We recognize
'God's love and he, wants
every Christian to do so.
The Holy Spirit works
through us concluded the
Father.
Mrs. Ann Feagan then
sang Lesa Tata, Lesa

Scott at the piano.
The final part was led
by the Nile group,

World Day of Prayer service
at Nile Church on Friday.
This ,service was prepared
by students in the Pan-Afri-
can, Leadership Course for
Women at Mindolo Ecumen-
ical Foundation, Kitive,
Zambia.
Mrs. Alvin Kerr was chair -
lady and Mrs. Frank Scott
was organist. Father Den-
tinger was the speaker and
Mrs. Clyde Westhaver gave
a- meditation. Parts in the
service were taken by Mrs,
Lawrence, Mrs, Peter Mart-
in, Miss Pearl Caldwell, Mrs.
Amy Wiggins, Mrs. Jack
Alton, Mrs. Elwin Feagan,

A confirmation class for
communicants begins ses-
sions this week in Dungan-
non Church. This class is
open to young persons and
others who are desirous of
coming into the full member-
ship of the church at Easter
on profession," of faith. The
age range is usually fourteen
and up, but more important
than age is a willingness to
serve the Lord in the fellow-
ship of the church and in
one's own'personal life. Per-
sons wishing to "sit in" with
the class will also be wel•

ton's on 'February 26th 'at
7.00 p.m. The minutes of the

Kindergarten Registration
for next fall's class was held
on Thursday, March 1, with
about 40 children register-
ing. Huron County Health
Nurses were on hand to give
them their check up and
inoculations, if necessary.
On' Wednesday, February
28 the ienior boys hockey
teams prayed the last game
of the playoffs. The Flyers,
with captain George Alton
won the game 7 - 4 against
the Flames; -(captain' Jamie-
Bere). The Flyers thus be-
come the senior boys hockey
champions of Brookside
School,
On Tuesday, February 27
the girls' hockey team played
against the Ripley girls' team
with a score of 4 - A. "for
Brookside. Goals were scor-

en on how to tie different
scarf knots. Each member
finally mastered the "Wind-
sor Knot", the "Square
Knot", the "Ascot" and the
"Soft Puff".
The fourth meeting began
with the roll call which
included every girl doing
three different scarf ties. The
club then talked about purses
and what type of purse you
prefer including the different
styles of purses, for various
occasions.
The topic of shoes '.as an
accessory was discussed in -
chiding the At, the selection
or style of ' a shoe and the
proper care for shoes.
