Kincardine blasts Liens 8-0 in tourney
The Goderich Lions
Pee - Wees went to the
Royal Canadian •Legion
Zone CI hockey tour-
nament Saturday in Blyth
as the defending
champions, but they
werep't around long to
defend their title. The
Lions were un-
ceremoniously .dumped
froth the tournament, 8-0
in first round action by
Kincardine. •
The two teams play in
the same league and the
Lions gid won their two
regular season meetings
so tar by scores of 5-3 and
5-2 but the Kincardine
squad came out flying
Saturday, jumping off to
a 9-0 lead by the end of the
first period, and adding
one goal in the second
Period and three in the
third to rout the
Lions.
Over 100 snowmobile enthusiasts wound their machines over a 50 -
mile country side route Sunday in the Forester's • annual
marathon for cancer. The participants, raised` over $6,000 in.
pledges in one of the most successful marathons staged by the.
club: Herman Fisher of Goderich was the top driver with over
$1,200 in pledges for his effort. It took an average of about four
hours to• complete the course which began in Benmilier. (-photo

Bogie rink captures mixed curling event
Five teams from our
club competed in, a
double knock -out with the
winner to represent
—Maitland in Seagram's
Mixed Division play-off.
The teams of McCaul;
• Jasper, Bogle,- .Hansen
and Mitchelmore had a
busy week of curling with
Bogie -and Mitchelmore
reaching the semi-finals.
Although Don's team,
with wife Del, Jack
Kellough and Lori Ginn
curled well, Bogie's. team
of Faye Ribey, Denis Le.
Brun 'and -ncy-
McKinnon •, were the
winners. The sub -division
play=off s were held at the
Maitland January 20 and
21. with teams from
Seaforth, .• Exeter- and-
Goderich.

with a four -team league
including one team from
Clinton:

Midget B's win 6-4
The Goderich Midget
Bs piled up a five goal
lead after two periods
and hung on to defeat
Walkerton in League play
in Goderich, Sunday.
Each team- scored a
single goal in the first
period. but Goderich
dominated play in the
second period scoring
five unanswered goals to
hold a substantial. 6-1
edge after two periods.
As it turned out the
midgets needed the five
goal bulge as they fell
into a lapse in the third
period and au110st wat-
ched their lead disappear
as Walkerton -scored
three times in the final
period. • .
Lar-ry Kelly led the
Goderich offence with a
three -goal per -
formance, scoring the
first goal of the game in
the first period and ad-
ding two more in the
second. Jim Fritzley,
Randy Graham and John
Alexander added one goal
apiece for Goder.iich. '
Dave Faulkner scored
two goals to lead
Walkerton.

was the first of the season
for Sunset and ended
their winning streak at 12

"Holmesville almost sat
back and watched Sunset
win the game but
managed two late third
minutes to take a 5-4 lead
before, Holmesville
rallied -with the tying and
winning goal.
Sunset recovered from
their only loss of the
season to down third
place Burgef r Bar 4-2 in a
game Sunday. The loss
was the eighth .of the
season for Burger Bar
against four wins and two
ties.
-With the victory Sunset
clinched first place in the
standings.
On Wednesday,
January 24, Sunset
played the Oldtimers and
on Sunday second .place
Sifto will battle
Holmesville, at the
'Goderich Community
Centre.

The game was a double
loss for Goderich. The
game also counted as a
league game since the
two teams were
scheduled to play each
other on Saturday and
both teams agreed to
count the game as both
the tournament and the
league game. The loss
leaves the Lions With a
record of 15 wins, five
losses and two ties in
WOAA league play.
Sean Johnson and Mich
Landry were two -goal
scorers for Kincardine.
Jamie Emmerton, Dan
Shaw, Warren Farrell
and Paul Stapleton each
scored one goal for the
winners.
The Lions 'played in
Hanover against the first
place Hanover team
Wednesday night and art
playing an exhibition
game in Wingham tonight
(Thursday). The
Wingham team emerged
from the Zone Cl Tour-
nament as the champions
Saturday, defeating
Kincardine 5-2 in the 'A'
division championship
and edging Brussels, 5-4
in overtime to take the
grand championship.
Saturday, the Lions meet
Hanover again here at 5
p.m. in a game originally
scheduled for February 3 •
but moved ahead to allow.
Hanover to take part in•a
tournament on that date.
Gee Gees move
into first place
The Goderich Gee Gees
jumped into first place in
the Lakeshore Mens
Intermediate Basketball
League with a 78-61
victory over Kin-
cardine,Friday.
The win was the eighth
of the season for the Gee
Gees against three losses
and boosted them into
sole possession offirst
place with 16 points.
Owen Sound is in second.
spot just two points
behind Goderich but they
have two games in hand.
Port Elgin holds down
third place with 10 points
while Kincardine has
eight points and
Walkerton two.
The games was tight
for the first half with the
Gee Gees enjoying a 35-32
lead but they opened up
play in the second half to
outscore Kincardine 43-
29.
Dave Ross and Brian
MacKenzie led the Gee
Gees offensively scoring
19 points apiece. Greg
Beacom chipped in with
10 points and team-mate
Jim Watt added eight.
Paul Thomas, Al Sygrove
and Warren Watt 'Scored
six points each and Jeff
Baechler added four.
Goderich returns to
action this Friday night
in Kincardine.
