The faces
of
Christmas
MICHAEL BURROUGHS
Michael said he wants "lots of things" for
Christmas but specified a rifle and bullets for
himself and a stove for his sister. He said he
also wants a Star Wars game and the Star Wars
gun with the bullets. He said he planned to use
the Star Wars gun .to "shoot his sister cause
she's kind of stupid". He said he wasn't going to
hurt her because the bullets were only plastic
and would do no real harm. He didn't say why
his sister was stupid saying that she "does
stupid things to me".
JOHN WATSON
John said he wanted a plane, a car, a Max
Machine and a smash up derby for Christmas.
He said he felt maybe that was a little much for
Santa to bring him so he figured Santa could
leave out the smash up derby and his dad would
get that for him. John didn't see any problem
getting what he wanted for Christmas because
as he said he "never did anything all year".
KAREN McCALLUM
Karen said she wanted a record player for
Christmas and that was all. She said she saw
Santa at the parade in Goderich and went to see
him after to sit on his knee. She said Santa
"scared" her but that she liked him. She said
she wasn't sure if Santa was going to bring her
the record player because all he said was "Ho
Ho Ho". She didn't say whether or not she had
been a good girl all year but did point out that
she never got yelled at.
TARA PLACE
Tara said she wants a walking doll for
Christmas, one of the ones that walks away
from you and then turns around and walks
back, She said she also wants a cooking set so
she could bake "cakes and pies and be like
mommy". She also wouldn't mind a couple of
Christmas books. Tara said she hadn't seen
Santa so far but planned to look for him
Christmas night. She added that she tries hard
to be a good girl but that "sometimes she is
bad". She qualified that however by adding
that most of the time she is good.
COREY ADAMS
Corey said he wanted a Mr. Mouth for
Christmas and some Christmas books
"because it's Christmas". He said he told Santa
Claus that when he saw him in the parade and
in the "drunk place, you know the Legion".
Corey said Santa told him to be good adding "I
think he said he'll see me on Christmas". The
five year old said he couldn't see that being
good was a problem because as he put it "I was
never bad once all year because I want some
presents".
BRIGID BEDARD
Brigid said -she wanted a "Baby Dis and Dat
and I think that's it". She said she saw Santa to
tell him that but she didn't know what Santa
said. She added that she peeked downstairs
Christmas eve and saw Santa putting the
presents under the family Christmas tree. She
said she had been a good girl most of the year
but said that "one bad thing she had donw was
run through the house". But she wasn't worried
about that because although her mother got
mad at her for running through the house
"Santa won't be mad"

come above this amount.
The Child Tax Credit was
designed to redistribute
social benefits by
directing More help to
lower income families.
To help finance the new
Child Tax Credit
program, the federal
Family Allowances rate
is being reduced -- ef-
fective January 1979 -- to
$20 a month per child for
children under age 18 in
most provinces and in the
territories.
The amount and
method of payment of
Family Allowances
varies in Quebec and
Alberta. This option was
chosen by both these
provinces under a
provision in. the Family
Allowances Act which
permits a provincial
government to ask the
federal government to
vary the rates payable in
that province according
to the age or number of
children in a family or
both, providing the
payments average $20
per month over a four-
year period.
Special Allowances,
which are paid to foster
parents, welfare agen-
cies, government
departments and in-
stitutions maintaining
children, are not affected
by the new legislation.
Rates for these will in-
crease from $25.68 to
$27.99 in January.
Recipients of a Special
Allowance for a child will
not be entitled to claim a
Child Tax Credit for that
child.
