The Goderich Green
and Parent midgets
looked somewhat less
than impressive in a pair
of weekend losses.
After playing so well in
their previous starts
against "AA" and
"AAA" teams from
London an4 Kitchener,
the local midgets came
up flat against Lambeth
here Saturday, losing
that exhibition game, 6-3.
Again, Sunday, in a
league game, won 2-1 by
Walkerton, in Walkerton,
the Green and Parent
team produced little of
the good hockey they are
Capable of playing.
Both games were
characterized by unin-
spired play by the for-
Wards, defensive lapses
-by the defencemen and
goaltending that yielded
some soft goals to the
opposition.
Lambeth jumped off to
a two goal lead here
Saturday on a pair of
goals by Don Shore. That
lead stood up until Rob
Trebish got the first
Goderich goal early in the
third period, assisted by
Mike Hodges and Jim
Costello. Matt Jenner
came back with a pair for
Lambeth and Bill Maton
and Jeff O'Brien scored
singles to put the visitors
in front, 6-1. .•
Late goals by Hodges,
assisted by Larry Madge,
and Madge, assisted by
Dan Mailiet and Trebish,
made the score more
respectable. The Green
and Parent midgets had
previously defeated
Lambeth 42, in Lambeth,
with only eleven players
dressed.
Sunday's loss to
Walkerton was the
second meeting of these
two teams in the WOAA
schedule and it was the
second 2-1 victory by
Walkerton over
Goderich. Although
Walkerton has lost games
to teams the Goderich
team has handled easily;
their aggressive checking
seems to give them the
edge over the Green and
Parent crew.
First period goals by
Dan Weber and Paul
Berberich were all
Walkerton needed for the
win. Goderich got one
goal back when Dan
Maillet scored a short-
handed goal by beating
Walkerton goalie Stephen
Elliott to a loose puck
midway through, the
second , period. Frotn
there on, Goderich shot a
lot of rubber in the
general direction of the
Walkerton net but most of
their shots viiere off the
net.
The Green, and Parent
team received another
set -back in the Walkerton
game on a questionable
butt -ending call against
centre Mike Hodges. The
penalty involves an
automatic suspension
until the league executive
deals with it.
This Saturday the
Green and Parent squad
will be attempting to get
back on the track when
they take on Kincardine
here in a league game
beginning at 8 p.m.
During the holidays, the
Goderich midgets will be
playing in the Silver Stick .
Tournament in Petrolia.
Their first game is
Boxing Day against
Mooretown.

Signal -Stars whip Belmont
BY DAVE SYKES
The Goderich Signal -
Star juveniles racked up
another lopsided victory
in OMHA league play
Sunday defeating
Belmont 11-1 in Goderich.
Goderich completely
dominated the game, as
evidenced by the score,
taking advantage of a
shorthanded Belmont
team, who were unable to
dress two complete lines.
The game -was poorly
played and the Stars, if
they had been playing to
potential, could. have
easily doubled the score
on Belmont.
The Stars jumped into a
4-0 lead after one period
of play, added two goals
in the second period and
outscored Belmont in the
final period, 5-1.
Roger Lewis led the
Goderich offence with a
four -goal performance,
three of which came in
the final period. Team-
mate Ian Chisholm
chipped in with three
goals and Gerry Wun-
nick, Hugh Hanly, Larry
Mike Hickman scored
the only Belmont goal in
the third period as he was
left uncovered in front of
Star goaltender Tony
Bedard while Belmont
was shorthanded.
The game was delayed
midway through the
second period as juvenile
centre Hugh Hanly
passed out on the bench
and was later taken to
hospital. Referee Ken
Crawford administered
first aid to the player

Sailors failed to gain
ground in their game
against Lucknow, Sun-

A faur-goal effort in the
third period clinched the
victory for Mildmay
Friday in a tough, hard
hitting game that
produced 27 minor
penalties, four fighting
majors and one
misconduct.
Goderich held a 3-1 lead
after the first period of
play on two goals by Paul
Rau and a single by Dan
Duncan. Mildmay tied
the score at 3-3 scoring
the only goals of the
second period. Mildmay
held an edge in play in the
second period as
Goderich goaltender
Dennis Fleishauer
stopped 18 shots in the
period.
Mildmay . then out-
scored Goderich 4-2 in the
final period to win the
game 7-5.
With the scored tied
after two periods Mild-
may quickly pulled into
the lead with a goal in the
first minute of the final
period. Ken Meriam tied
the score two minutes
later on a power play but
Mildmay struck for two
straight goals to hold a 6-4
lead.
Graham Hamilton then
pulled Goderich to within
one goal of the home
team with a shorthanded
goal with eight minutes
remaining in the game.
But Goderich was unable
to tie the score and
Mildmay added an in-
surance goal on a power
play in the final minute of
play.
Goderich again
collapsed in the third
period Sunday as they
were thumped by

Bantams edge
Port Elgin 3T2
BY DAVE SYKES
The Goderich "Lakeport
Steel Bantams got a late
third period goal from
Dave McDonald to edge
Port Elgin 3-2 in WOAA
league play in Port Elgin,
Saturday.
McDonald converted a
pass from teach -mates
Paul Day and Phil Woods
with 3.37 remaining in the
final period and beat
netminder Peter
Kategiannis to lift the
Steelers to a 3-2 win.
The game was a tough
defensive battle and
neither team was able to
score in the first period.
Goderich opened the
scoring in the second on a
goal by Colin Alexander
with assists going to
'David Gallow and Dennis
Kerr. Port Elgin tied the
score late in the second
period but Brad Arm-
strong again put
Goderich in the lead with
a goal with 45 seconds
remaining in the second
period.
That 2-1 lead held up for
the first 10 minutes of the
final period before Port
Elgin again tied the score
with five minutes
remaining to play in the
game. But the Steelers
rebounded to win the
game on McDonald's late
goal. •
Jim MCDonald handled
the netminding duties for
Goderich.
The Bantams will play
an exhibition game in
Belmont Friday and
Saturday they will host
Port Elgin in a return
match at the Goderich
and District Community
Centre at 6:30 p.m.
