Colborne Central School scored another first for their float at the Santa Claus Parade in Goderich on Saturday. The theme of the parade was "Peace" which can be presented in various ways. The students at Colborne Central realized one can learn a great deal from the animals. Invariably, wars are created by man, so they adopted the plan or slogan, "Look to the Animal World", with the idea that adults can take a lesson from the har- mony in the animal world. Using 'the words of the song they sing at school, "Our Animals' Ballad", they, planned their float around the ballad of The Lion and the Lamb. Congratulations are in order tothe.students and staff. They in turn wish to say a sincere thank -you to Arnold Young of Colborne who is so co- operative and always ready and willing to supply the means of conveyance with his wagons and especially well-groomed horses. This Saturday, December 9 the Colborne junior girls' and boys' volleyball teams will be in a tournament at GDCI and a warm welcome is extended to the parents to come and give their in- . terest and support. Tuesday, December 12 the students from Colborne Central as well as students from other schools in Huron County, will be watching the Walt Disney movie, "Snowball Express", • which promises to be a highlight for all. On Tuesday December 19 at 8 p.m. is the Colborne Central Christmas Concert which is always a special festive event. Besides many interesting and enjoyable numbers on the program, the students of Grades 3, 4 and 5 will present a small Operetta. Parents can expect the Progress Reports from school on December 15. GIRLS' GROUP The Benmiller Girls'Group of Benmiller United Church completed the 1978 paper collections last Saturday and wish to say a special thank -you to all who gathered papers for them or helped in any way in this work. Your co-operation ,has cer- tainly been appreciated. olborne corner Gertrude Kaitting, The girls ` will be picking up papers again in 1979. They will start on Saturday, January 13 and continue every month during the year. The list of dates will be in this column early in the New Year so you can mark your calendar. The Benmiller Girls' Group wish one and all a Merry 'Christmas and Happy New Year and will be looking forward to picking up your papers again in 1979. EUCHRE PARTY There was a fair crowd at the euchre card party on Thursday evening, November 30. in Colborne Township Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Reg Riehl have been 'taking charge of these parties for the Colborne Township Recreation Committee and report the winners were: ladies- Mrs. Worthy Fowler and Mrs. Jack Bosman; and gents - Henry Brindley and Melville Snell. During the lunch time, it was agreed not to have any further euchre card parties until after the correspondent, 524-2076 festive season, with the date to beadvertised later. The group looks forward to meeting again. in 1979. W.I. Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute December meeting will be today -Thursday- at 1 p.m. featuring a pot luck luncheon in Colborne Township Hall. There will be a Christmas exchange of gifts. Donations will be received for Family and Children's Services (Children's Aid). This will be the W.I. Christ- mas party. SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Lou Fulford, who have been visiting in the district, have returned to their home at Elk Lake. r, , Mr. and Mrs. R. Congratulations are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Cunningham who were married in North St. United Church on November 24. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Cunningham of R.R. 5 Goderich and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Potzel of Goderich. She. was also a former member of Tiger Dunlop 4-H Group number one. The community is pleased to report Marvin Durnin has retuned home after being a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. The community is also pleased to report that Ted Brindley has returned home from University Hospital, London and is convalescing favorably Miss Helen Fulford of Maitland Manor is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London and her friends wish her a speedy recovery. The community is sorry to report that Mrs. Harry, Westlake of. Saltford is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London and her family advise that while she is now showing marked signs of recovery, con- valescing will take time. Her many friends wish her well. Marr Shaw is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich and his neigh- bors and friends hope for his return to better health. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of the late Stanley Snyder who for many years, farmed in Colborne Township. This miniature Canadian Tire truck was one of the many attractions in- terspersed among the large floats during the town's annual Santa Claus parade held on Saturday.
