Steady curliq by
Foresters Ralph Foster
and -Jim Hawkins ' set the
tone of the match against
an enthusiastic _GIP Ci
Viking team as the ex-
perienced Foresters
refused to allow the
student foursome to build
an end. Vikings Gary
Peters and Rob Cox put
rocks into the house on
many occasions only to
see them replaced by the
rocks of Foster • and
Hawkins. The final score
of 13 to 2 is very
misleading as almogiall
the ends were hard
fought.
Randy Watson's ex-
cellent play led the
financial wizards of
Victoria and Grey to their
third victory in a row as
they overcame a
determined effort by the
Champion Sales Office to
record a 12 to 5 final
score. The results of this
contest were in doubt
until the seventh end
when five shots by Pete
Crew, Eleanor Erskine
and Bruce Erskine
allowed the V&G four-
some 4 to score a big four

The Champion contingent
stayed close to that point
mainly on the uncanny
ability of Skip Bill
Hayward to make the big
shot. To the inex-
perienced curler, un-
familiar with Bill's
unusual style, the big shot
often looked like a missed
shot but the results are
what counts and the
results in this case was an
exciting game of curling.
Sitting in the lounge
before the game in their
matching team sweaters,
the A.M. & G Hospital
Team No. 1 looked like
curlers. Fortunately, on
the ice they also perform
well as they demon-
strated once again this
week by humbling(?) a
defiant Champion Girls
unit 15 to 2. Despite the
score, Sylvia Bolan and
Marg DeBolt had out-
standing nights but each
of their fineshots were
matched or 'Surpassed by
the efforts of Dennis
Miskie and Ron Klages.
Klages was particularly
outstanding as he made
perfect draws or difficult
chips with equal ease.

Ron will be temporarily
out of action for the next
few weeks to undergo
testing at Westminster '-
Hospital in London. All of
the Industrial League
wish Ron a quick return
to action.
Don Hullah and Phil
Paquette got the Huron
Health Unit back on the
winning track as they
helped to defeat the
Elementary Teachers 13
to 2.
Local 1863 also
recorded their second
victory of the season as
they out -dueled the
Victoria Teachers 6 to 2.
In this well played con-
test, Teacher Skip Ron
Ritchie executed some
extremely difficult shots
to keep the pressure on
his counterpart Jack
Kellough. There was
never more than one
point scored each end
which indicates fine
performances from the
front three of both,
squads.
Assessment Office
cornerstone Sue Ritchie
also had a fine night but it
too was in a losing effort
as her team went down to
def eat° tO A StrPAg.,LegiPn
foursome. To EddY; VIC
Powell and Larry Sturdy
all performed admirably
in the battle against Jim
Bents powerful
Assessment foursome.
The match was a close
one throughout and the
final score of 8 to 4 hides
the important statistic of
ends taken.
There are some „nights
when nothing goes right.
Jim Bolan and his
Champion Office team
experienced such a night
as they dropped a 20 to 1
decision to the GDCI
Teachers. Two four
enders in the first two
ends put the Champion
team on the comeback
trail quickly but expert
curling by Donna Doidge
and Doug Bundy plus an
unexplainable amount of
bad luck kept the Bolan
foursome scrambling just
to get on the scoreboard.
The A.M. & G. Hospital
No. 2 team took to the ice
determined to break their
early season losing
streak. Their opponents,
the Mitchelmore Family
were equally determined
not to begin a losing

The Goderich Chess
Club enjoyed it's best
turnout this year with 20
members being present
last week.
After last weeks action,
no player maintains a
perfect record. However,
Charlie Cook won two
games to remain un-
defeated in 10 games!
Charlie's record is only
marred by his one draw.
Charlie also leads the
most improved division
as he was only at .443 this
time last year!
He will have quite a
battle on his hands to hold'
on to first place as three
members are right
behind him with per-
centages over .900!
The object of these

pasize the positive ,side of
the games. In other
words, to avoid pointing
out a players losses.

However in the case of
Charlie MacDonald, a
loss is big news as he
rarely 'loses. In the last
two' seasons Charlie had
not lost a 1,..egular season
game (although he had to
'play six games to win the
v• play-offs last year with a
4-2 record).
Jim Kingsley achieved
a seven year goal by
finally coming up with a
win against Charlie
MacDonald. Charlie's
record is still a very
impreSsive 12-1, good for a
second place tie. Tied
with Charllie for second
is Louis Stadelmann who
is off to an extremely
good start: Steve Harding
is also holding on to a win -
loss percentage of better
than 90 percent winning
two games to move into
fourth place.
In level 2 play,
frustration reigned
supreme as Steve
Hamrnill, who was in a
bit of a slump, got his
game' together and after
a three hour ,battle came
out victorious against a
Level 1 player! Then
came the shock! It was'
discovered that the game
had been played With the
board reversed! (In
Chess a Dark square
must be in the left hand
corner) The board being
reversed ' caused the
game to be nullified and
Steve's three hours of
concentration were for
nought.
In , clevel three play,
Darrell Clutton won two
of three games to hold
onto the lead while Don
Bogie moved up to second
place winning three of
four games.
