a big success
On Nov. .25, 1978, the
Goderich Figure Skating
Club sponsored a public
skate-a-thon at the
Goderich and District
Community Centre from
11:OO a.m.-5:OOp.m.
Sixty-three skaters
participated with only six
having to quit due to
various reasons. Most
reasons were due to
blisters and a small first-
aid station was set up to
take care of this problem.
The arena staff were on
hand at all times to help
out with any problems
that might have occurred
and flooded the ice once
every hour. However, the
skaters were very en-
thusiastic and were on
the ice almost before the
tractor was finished.
Lunch was provided for
all participants which
they enjoyed.
Mr.- Rick ' Pet
tits,
professional coach' with
the club, helped to
oversee the skaters while
on the ice and assist along
with our senior amatiur
coaches from the club
and also a couple of
coaches from Minor
Hockey. A variety of
music was played which
helped to keep everyone
moving.
Mayor Harry Worsell
finished along with the
majority and helped to
draw the lucky numbers
for the variety of prizes at
each break time.
The youngest skaters
were three year old
Danette . Horton, little
sister of Debbie Horton,
-12, who had the most
pledges and Tyler Brady,
three-year old son of Mrs.
Fran. Brady, professional
coach with the club.
Each skater is urged to
collect his pledges
promptly and turn them
into the Victoria and
Grey Trust Co. as close to
the due date, Dec. 9 78
as possible.
Thank you one and all
for getting out and
participating and helping
others.
and Robbie Gibbons.
Thompson also had
three assists while
Brenner had two, as did
Scott Stokes and Nick
Trebish. Single assists,
went to Trevor .Martin,
Shawn' Rahbek, Trevor
Erb and Mike Brenner.
Billy MacFarlane and
Terry Whiteside were the
only Durham shooters to
beat Terry Bean who
went the distance in goal
for the Lions.
The Lions have two
games again this
weekend, ' with Hanover
playing here Saturday at
5 p.m., and Goderich
