Sant.a's
BY JOANNE
BUCHANAN
The town's annual
Santa Claus parade has
come and gone once
again. This year's parade
featured 13 floats all
displaying world peace
themes. The Goderich
Laketown Band, the
Seaforth Girls' Band, and
the Goderich majorettes,
led the parade and
various clowns were
grade had
dispersed throughout it,
throwing candy to
children in the crowd.
The most popular at-
traction of all however
was old Saint .Nick
himself who came riding
•up South Street and
around the Square atop a
float with his reindeer
Later, he
and elves. I.a ,was
visited by many children
when he held Santa's
court in the Park
A
Theatre. There, mem-
bers of the Goderich
Ranger's gave. out treats.
The weather 'was
favorable for the parade
and the crowds were.
thick with parents and
• 4•
children hoping to get a
glimpse of Santa.
Colborne Central
School took first place for
their float in the school
section with the Goderich
Municipal Day Nursery
coming in second and the
Vanastra Public School
third.
The Huron County
Library float was the o.ly
entry in the servjce
section and took first
place.
In the youth section,
Bethel Pentecostal Youth
came in first with their
float-, _ the Vanastra
Brow lies came in
second; and the fifth
Goderich Cub Pack came
in third.
There were no entries
in the industrial section
for floats.
In the general section,
float winners were the
Bluewater Centre, first;
the Goderich and District
Pro Life group, second;
and the Park Theatre,
third.
Hats off to all those who
participated by entering
floats. You help to make
the parade what it is. '

Larry Webb of the Goderich Police Force had his hands full keeping the
crowds back off the road during the town's annual Santa Claus parade on
Saturday. The clowns in the parade also kept him on his toes throughout the
afternoon. He never .knew what they were going to do next. Here, one stops
for a`friendly chat. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan)
The Hometown Paper
It's like a smiling face;
It's- like a voice you long
have known.
You see it in some distant
place
And rush to claim it as
your own
The paper from your old
hometown
Has bridged the long and
dreary miles
And with it, you can settle
down
Among familiar tears.
and smiles . f(
It speaks of every friend
you know
It tells of scenes you
yearn to see
It brings back joys of long
ago
And tells of joys that are
to be
And as you run its
columns o'er
Your yesterdays come
trooping back;
You fancy your're at
home once more
And golden seem the
letters black
It s speech, is one you
understand,
It tells of grief you can
share;
It brings you; in that
distant land
Glad messages, to banish
care.
There among scenes and
faces strange
The old home paper
seems to be
The faithful friend that
doesn't change
A friend that you are glad
to see
