Blinding snow reduced
the visibility to nil. •
On the rocks off Point
Austin Reef, the Hanna
went hard aground.
Because the storm
continued relentlessly, it
was several days before
her crew could launch a
lifeboat, abandon ship
and reach shore safelY.
In the spring of the
following year, Captain
Tom Reid, marine
salvage operator from
Sarnia, inspected the
broken vessel. He
decided that it could be
saved; consequently, the
ship was raised and
towed to Midland for her
new owners.
Repaired and refitted,
she then sailed as the
Glenshee. Later, the
name Marquette was
acquired.
In 1926, the vessel
became the property of
Canada Steamship Lines
and proudly sailed as the
Goderich.
Algoma Central
Railway purchased her in
1963 and named her the
Agawa.
Early in 1968, she made
her last trip down Lake
Huron to the port of
Goderich. Here, now
retired from active
service, she is moored: -

Not the end
Dear Editor,
Reading this week's
"Dear Editor” section, I
found a young Grade 12
high school student ob-
jecting to "Feligion" in
the schools. On the
"Church Page" I found
two statements and one
question by a religious
"teacher": "The Bible
makes it perfectly Clear
that death -is not the end
of life"; "Your soul,
which is the real you will
be transported -to Heaven,
or Hell"; and "Do you
know anything about the
place?"
The Bible book of
Ecclesiastes tells me: "All
go unto one place ;. all are
of the dust, and all turn to
dust again."' (3:20)
Chapter 9:10 of the
Earliest English tran-
slation says: "Wh,at-
soever thy hand is able to
do, do it earnestly; for
neither work, nor reason,
nor wisdom, , nor
knowledge shall be in
hell, whither thou art
hastening." (Douay) This
is in full harmony with
what Almighty God told
Adam: "Thou shalt
surely die." (Genesis
2:17-3:19)
The gist of the two
statements quoted from
the Church Page is: "ye
shall hot surely die,",
stated by the deceiver to
Eve at Genesis 3:4. Can
we wonder that Grade 12
students object to
"religion" being imposed
upon them? These
students are not 'stupid'.
The Bible hope for the
dead is pointed out at
Acts 29:15: "There shall
be a resurrection of the
dead, both of the just and
the unjust." Acts 17:31
assures us: God "hath
appointed a day, in which
he will judge the world in
righteousness by that
man whom he hath or-
dained; whereof he hath
given assurance unto all
men, in that he raised
him from the dead."
Sincerely,
C.F. Barney
On the line
Dear Editor,
I think it is about time
that some changes were
made in the building
codes in our town.
I was raised in the town
of Goderich ancl also
raised my family here. 0,
I think Goderich is a'
great place to live but I
am wondering if they
want a man to make his
living in Goderich.
I had a fire at my Gas
Bar in the early part of.
June and we have been
told that we can not

I think that due to the

given.
I do not want to bring

I do noCknow what all

Call a cab
Dear Editor,
This will serve as
confirmation that -the
Free Taxi Service will be
offered again this year
for Goderich residents on
New Year's Eve. •
As in the past two
years, the public service
will be available from 9
p.m. to 4 a.m. within the
town limits.
We hope that this will
become an annual un-
dertaking as it has
become increasingly
easy to obtain spon-
sorship by area business
people. Many people
made use of the taxis and
we hope that the response
will be as favourable this
year.
The project has been
organized a little earlier
this year with the aim
that more residents will
be aware that the taxis
are at their disposal and
they may plan to leave
their vehicles at home on
New Year's Eve, if at all
possible.
The sponsors are not
looking for recognition,
however, they would
appreciate any
publication that the
newspaper could provide
as to advising the public
that this service has been
arranged for their use
within the town limits
during the hours men-
tioned above.
The project co-
ordinators this year are
Bruce Betties of
Bluewater Taxi and the
undersigned. For further
information please
contact Bruce at 524-2092
or Heather at 524-2472.
The users can call the
Taxi companies directly
on NewGYear's Eve, the
earlier the better, to book
the vehicles. Bluewater
