Rec. board to
meet council
BY DAVE SYKES
The Goderich
Recreation Board will
seek a meeting with the
new town council to
discuss a series of
recommendations con-
cerning the hiring of a
recreation director and
related responsibilities.
The recreation board
asked for a meeting with
council to discuss the
hiring of a new director
and other changes
relating to existing
personnel, moving the
recreation offices and
expanding the depart-
ment's jurisdiction.
In a special meeting
last week the board made
five recommendations to
be forwarded to council.
In the major recom-
mendation, the board
advised council they will
be advertising for a new
director, to fill the post
vacated.by Mike Dymond
and or appropriate
alternatives.
The board also hopes
that the recreation offices
could be moved to the
grandstand where
sliita.bleoffice space has
been set aside. The
funding of the relocation
would come out of the
board's 1978 capital
budget• since money was
set' 'aside,last year for
applications from two
universities were
received for 20 bursaries
paid by the county an-
nually, Huron county
students attending the
possible move:
Also the board will look
into the possibility of
taking over jurisdiction
of the grandstand and the
agriculture -Park sports
facilities and adjustthe
manpower situation to
accommodate the extra
work.
Board chairman Mary
Donnelly said she hoped
council would react
favorably to the
recommendations and let
the board' make the final -
decisions.
At the final board
meeting a motion was
passed calling for the
board to hire a qualified
recreation director. And
in his report to the board,
recreation director, Mike
Dymond said he hoped
that a certified director
with at least five years'
' experience in municipal
recreation could be ob-
tained for the job.
But if the board stuck to
those recommendations
they may be faced with a
hefty salary, higher than
the $16,000 currently paid
to Dymond.

requested a meeting with
council during its regular
meeting on December 11,
but has yet to receive
confirmation from

schools apply for the $150
bursaries to help them
foot the bill for tuition at
school. The University of
Western Ontario had 41
applications for ten
bursaries and Waterloo
had 21 applications for
ten bursaries there. At
Fanshawe College 28
students applied for two
bursaries and at Wilfrid
Laurier five applications
were received for two
bursaries.
In other business the
executive committee
.recommended. that a
grant off $1,9.8.0 be paid to
the Victorian Order of
Nurses and a $.3,000 grant
be given the Town and
Country Homemakers.
County fairs were also
considered by council.
The executive committee
suggested that
agricultural grants in the,

increased to $2.00. The

Fairs had their grants
