Signal -star Juveniles
rip Strathroy 7-2
BY DAVE SYKES
The Goderich Signal
Star juveniles finally
broke their habit of losing
hockey games by one
goal as they grabbed
three points in two WOAA
league games last week.
The Stars needed a late
third period goal to tie
East London 3-3 last
Tuesday after they fell
behind in the final period.
The teams played
through a scoreless first
period before Randy
Stoddart put Goderich
ahead by a goal with an
unassisted tally in the
second period. East
London tied the score
eight seconds later but
Dale Duncan put
Goderich ahead for the
second time with an
unassisted goal at 4:44.
East London again
replied with the tying
goal late in . the second
period as 'Ted Perkin
notched his second of the
game.
London scored the go
ahead goal late in the
third period but Goderich
was able to rise to the
occasion with the tying
goal with less than five
minutes remaining in the
game. Rqger Lewis
scored the tying goal with
the assist going to Larry
Daer.
The Stars put forth one
of their better per-
formances of the season
Sunday as they drubbed
Strathroy 7-2 at the
Goderich and District
Community Centre.
Strathroy, who boasted
a record off five wins
against two losses before
the game, scored the only
goal of the first period
and increased the margin
to two goals scoring early
in the second period.
But the Stars
dominated the game
from that point early in
die second period scoring
seven unanswered goals
and keeping Strathroy off
balance with relentless
forechecking.
Roger Lewis paced the
Goderich attack with four
goals, two in each period
while team-mates Hanly,
Dale Duncan and Rick
Rawson added singles.
After trailing by two
goals the Stars scored
four times in the second
period and added three
goals in the final period, a
period in which they
enjoyed several power
play opportunities.
Gerry Gaynor and
Tony Bedard shared the
netminding duties for the
Stars -and both played
well. Gaynor held
Strathroy to two goals
before his teammates got
untracked and Bedard
made some excellent
saves in holding
Strathroy scoreless over
the final 22 minutes.
The Stars return to
action this Sunday at 3
p.m.
