KELLER The location of the door to the new women's hospital auxiliary gift shop in the lobby, at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital came'in for some discussion Monday evening at the regular November meeting. Bill Duckworth, assistant administrator at the hospital, said the door was too close to the desk where confidential patient information is often taken by the receptionists. Mrs. Ronald McCallum of the hospital auxiliary was at the, meeting and explained that a full panel was planned between the desk and the doorway into the gift shop for the purpose of ensuring more privacy. ,She also said the door was located to facilitate getting merchandise into the gift shop in large amounts. "I would prefer that the door was not located so close to the desk," said Duckworth. Dr. Bruce Thomson agreed with Duckworth. "It is amazing what people listen to and what they infer from what they hear," said Dr. Thomson. "We know that from our own offices and reception areas." James McGee, the man who willingly gave of his time to design the new gift shop for the ladies, will be contacted to determine his views on moving the door. +++ What about raising funds from the community to meet operating costs at a community hospital? Elmer Taylor, administrator of AM&G, said Monday evening there is nothing wrong with the idea, but the board should be reminded that if the community is called on to provide operating funds, it might put capital projects in jeopardy when additional money is requested from the community for this purpose. Jim McCaul, chairman of finance,- said member municipalities with representation on Seaforth Community Hospital Board, pay $3 per annum for each resident admitted to the hospital in any given year. "It doesn't amount to a lot of money, but it is a way of generating additional revenue," com- mented McCaul. Doug McNeil, formerly reeve of Colborne Township and warden of Huron County, said he'd never heard of such a thing. McCaul explained it is "historical" in Seaforth. +++ Following a report from the community health. committee, Mrs. Jo ' Berry expressed her disappointment that the minutes did not contain any mention ofsthe two-way communication that is necessary between the community and the hospital. _"Thereshould be more sharing of ideas," commented Mrs. Berry. "It is up to the board to get their ideas across to the community and ideas from the community as to what they expect from their hospital." She said another meeting will be necessary to get this concept worked out. + ++. The board has accepted the resignation of Mrs. Charity McDonald due to ill health. A letter from Mrs. McDonald was read to board members expressing her regret to leave the hospital's employ. Miss Alyce flShack, director of nursing, was thanked for her donation of $100' worth of pyjamas and nighties to the hospital's children's ward. Mrs. Judy Jefferson is to start at the first of 1979 as infection control nurse, two mornings .each week. The credentials of Dr. Charlton Chan were accepted. It was noted that two more doctors are expected in Goderich in the spring. They are a married couple, Doctors Jim and Leslie Rourke. The couple have been working in AM&G in a relief capacity in recent weeks. They are coming to Goderich from London. + ++ Dr. Brian Lynch, medical officer of health for Huron County, has requested a regular spot on future agendas of the medical advisory com- mittee of AM&G. Dr. Lynch was present at a recent meeting to discuss a screening program for Rubella and is to be co-opted on the infection control committee of the hospital. + ++ Members of the medical staff at AM&G have advised the board that in their opinion, per- centage occupancy on a monthly basis should be closely monitored and recorded based. on 101 beds. The doctors also asked for a monthly print out of the occupancy rate by" departments - pediatrics, psychiatry, medicine, surgery anti ,obstetrics. --tlt was estimated on Monday evening that current occupancy rateis about 82.73 per cent. Goderich town council learned ' Monday night that the proposal of Keith Homan of Goderich• ani Dick Peeler of London has been held up by the MVCA because seven of the 60 trailer park sites in the development are on the river's flood plain. The authority will not permit construction of any type on the flood plain. Councillor Dave Gower, the town's representative on the MVCA, told council that he thought it would be "ridiculous" for the developers to build anything on the flood, - plain. He said he felt the authority would have no objection to the development if the seven. sites were taken off. In a letter to council Ian Deslauriers, resources manager for the authority, said the seven sites on the flood plain represented an "un- necessary hazard to life and property". The letter made no mention of any objection to the 500 slip marina adjacent to the trailer park. Mayor Deb Shewfelt. asked Gower if the ■ No running. Goa No walking. No exercise. Noeffort. Smith finds,kepo4 disappointin:. Goderich Recreation I3oard member Randy Smith took exception to a story that appeared on the front page 'of last week's Signal -Stir quoting potential council candidates on the issue of hiring another recreation director. The it'sue was brought forward at an all - 'candidates meeting La Leche League meets La Leche League of Huron County met in November at the home of Mrs. R. Lomas, RR 5, Goderich. Smith claimed the story could draw battle lines between members of council and the recreation board and claimed the story was "negative." "It was not good timing for those statements to be made public,” he said. "What we need now is more positive press." Board member John Doherty told Smith the statements generated from the candidates meeting. But Smith replied that because of the story some negative attitudes were circulated around town. "If ' they criticize the director then they are .criticising the direction we give him," he said. "It's just disappointing." "It just puts us in a shaky position before we go to council with our recommendation." our on -staff interior design consultant. Venetian blinds aro available in colours and should blend with the walls. A contrasting colour draws too much attention. The blind that Is strung with nylon, thread instead of the usual flat tape Is easily washed. Horizontal - slat blinds are better than vertical - slat blinds which are better suited to offices. You may like to use venetian blinds on your picture window that frames an unsightly view. If you are using draperies with a valan- ce, the top of the blind Is well hidden. Ball & Mutch Ltd.
