Zurich Buckeyes

Merchants Monday with
a 2-0. victory in South
Huron Hockey League
Intermediate C action.
The Merchants had
won four straight games
by comfortable margins
before Monday's game,
including an 8-4 rout off
Centralia last Thursday.
The loss was only the
second of the season for
the Merchants along with
six wins. The win was the
sixth of the campaign for
Zurich against one loss.
Despite conning off a
four -game winning skein
the Merchants' offence
was a bit flat and failed to
capitalize on power play
opportunities. On two
separate occasions in the
second period the Mer-
chants enjoyed a two-
man advantage and their

Lions win pair of weekend games
The Goderich • Lions
Pee Wees added a pair of
victories to their WOAA
"BB" hockey standings
with wins over Listowel
and Kincardine last
week, to boost their
record to five wins and
one loss.
Thursday in Listowel,
the Lions bombed the
Cyclones 8-2. Saturday,
the Goderich squad got
by Kincardine 5-3 , in
Kincardine.
Daryl Madge paced the
Lions attack in Listowel.
with three goals and two
assists. John Thompson
had a goal, and two
assists. Also scoring for
the Lions were Paul
Brenner, Rob Gibbons;
Shawn Rahbek, and
Trevor Erb. Scott Stokes
and Grant Garrow had
one assist each.
Bill Scheering and
Todd Hutton scored the
Listowel goals.
The Lions led 3-1 after
the first period, added
three unanswered, goals
in the second . and out-
scored Listowel 2-1 in the
final frame.
The game in Kin-
cardine was an exciting
contest with both teams
going hard both ways all
night.
They battled through a
scoreless first period and
exchanged single goals in
the second.
Rob Brown got Kin-
cardine's goal. Grant
Garrow tied it, scoring
for Goderich on, a pass
from Rob Gibbons.
Kincardine got the lead
back on a goal by Sean
Johnson early hi the third
period, but the Lions
came back with two goals
within one minute to
jump ahead by one goal.
Daryl Madge finished off
a play with Peter Stahl
and John Thompson and
Trevor Erb scored on a
pretty passing play with
Grant Garrow.
Ian McKenzie tied the
socre with just under
seven minutes left in the

cardine Saturday,
defeating Kincardine, 7-4.
The teams were tied 1-1
after the first period, and
3-3 after two periods, but
Goderich scored three
goals within the first
minute of the third period
to change the complexion,
of the game in a hurry.
Each team scored once in
the last few minutes of
the period to leave the
final score at 7-4.
Larry Madge and Dan
Maillet led the Goderich
goal getters with two
apiece. Madge also had
one assist. Linemate Rob
Trebish had a goal and

goal. Don Elliott and Rob
McDonald were credited
with one assist each.

Kincardine goals. Singles
went to ban Wilken and

It was the line of
Trebish, Madge and
Maillet that went to work
in the opening minute of
the final period, scoring
the three quick goals,
with Maillet pulling the
trigger on two of them
and Trebish getting the
'other.

The Goderich Lakeport
Steel Bantams improved
their standing in WOAA
league play last week
with a win and tie in two
games.
The Steelers .came up
with a strong defensive
performance Saturday
shutting out Kincardine
and Sunday they rallied
for three unanswered
goals in the final period to
gain a 5-5 tie with
Hanover.
Brad Armstrong led the
Goderich offence in the
win over Kincardine
scoring two goals in the 3-
0 victory. The teams
played through • ''a
scoreless first period -anti
Armstrong opened the
game's scoring with a
goal at 4:12 of the second
period that proved to be
the winner.
Darrell Graham added
an insurance marker
after seven minutes of
play in the final period
with Mark Crawford
picking up the assist.
Armstrong put the game
out of reach with his
second goal of the game
late in the period after
• converting a pass from
linemate Paul Day.
But the Steelers were
hard pressed to gain a tie
in their game against
Hanover Sunday as they
scored three goals in the
final period for the 5-5 tie.
Hanover built up a 2-0
lead after the first period
of play and outscored the
Bantams 3-2 in the second
period to carry a 5-2 lead
into the.final period.
Jim Mathers scored the
first Goderich goal in the
second period on • an
unassisted effort and
Graham added the
second . goal from David
Gallow.
But the third period
belonged to' Goderich as
they got single goals from
Tom Smith, Rick Stohl
and Armstrong to tie the
game. Stohl scored the
tying goal with three
minutes remaining in the
