orne woman celebrates 88th
Wednesday, November
8 was a special day for
Mrs. Lottie Pope who
celebrated her 88th birth-
day at the home of her
son, Mr. and Mrs. R.
Buchanan.
Besides having neigh-
bors and friends call to
extend happy birthday
wishes and enjoy a cup of
tea with her, she was
indeed pleased that her
son Ted Pope and his
wife, of Portland, Ontario
could come to visit with
her and that Helen
Fulford from Maitland
Manor and Lou Fulford
from Elk Lake could also
be among the guests.
Mrs. Pope, your many
friends extend a belated
happy birthday to you.

Miss Helen Brindley,
Variety concert
held at Nile Church
BY
DOROTHY CLEMENTS
The Variety Concert
was held at the Nile
Church last Thursday
evening and was a real
success'. It opened with
the singing of "O
Canada". Rev. C.
_Westhaver was the
chairman for the
evening.
A play called, "Hitler
never Forgets" was first
on the program with
Kevin Willis, Gregory
Feagan, • Gary Johnston
and Patty Brindley
(Hitler).
"Nile Junction" was
the next little •skit with
Linda Feagan, Cindy
Brindley, Kathy Kerr,
Gary Johnston and
Arlene Travis all asking
the station master, Lori
Feagan and Susan
Pollock if there were any
trains out of Nile, East,
West, North or South. But
there were no trains
going anywhere, so
everyone went over the
tracks. •
-ThePreacher and the
Bear" was next on the.
program. Jack Miller
was the bear and Ken
Clements was the
preacher up• in the
Sycamore tree.
"Honeymoon Couple"
was played by Rev. and
Mrs. C. G. Westhaver.
They had an awful time
getting to where they
were going but the car
finally broke down. (Too
bad!)
Kathy Kerr and Karen
Stothers then gave a little
dance.
Then -came the big
event, choosing the
"Queen of the Nile".
There were four con-
testants and everyone
voted for the Queen.
Fourth was Miss
Juvenile, played by
Gregory; third was Miss
Red Sea, played by Gary;
second was Miss Cairo
played by Kevin; and
first was Miss Neffetti
played by Ken and he was
chosen as the Queen of
the "Nile". It was a very
hard decision because
they were all dressed and
looked so nice.
A picture of the concert
will be seen in the paper
at a later date.
Domtar
nets '19
million
Domtar Inc. recently
reported net earnings of
$19.4 million or $1.31 per
common share for the
third quarter of 1978. This
is a substantial increase
over the $0.60 per share
earnings recorded for the
same period last year.
The increase is due
primarily to the greatly
improved market for the
Pulp and Paper Group
and the continuing strong
performance of the
recently acquired
California gypsum
wallboard operations,
Domtar reports.
The Pulp and Paper
Group has continued to
benefit from improved
demand, higher
production rates and a
lower valued Canadian
dollar.
To a lesser extent, the
Chemicals and
Packaging Groups have
similarly benefitted.
