The Goderich Minor Soccer Association honored
members of the Atom A soccer team at the
associations annual banquet. Recipients In-
cluded Robert Barwick, best defensive player;
Jeff Bissett, most gentlemanly player; Darcy
McGee, most valuable player and Scott Garrow,
most improved. Dave Jewell, voted the best

Curling season
underway
Seventy-four en-
thusiastic curlers opened
the mixed Friday night
curling with a dinner,
curling, and believe it or
not, horse racing.
John and Nancy
MacKinnon and Craig
and Caroline Cass, were
winners of the first draw,
Second draw winners
were Mr. and Mrs. Barry
Davies and Tom Eadie
and Jack MacKinnon.
Prize winners for style
on the ice were Lori Ginn,
Gayle McCaul and Lmda
Hanson.
The Jaspers and
Dempseys are to be
congratulated on a
smashing success.
Instructors Dennis and
Tom had a busy week,
and it was great to see
how quickly new curlers
began sliding down the
ice with the greatest of
ease.
Men's night has
started with two draws
every Monday night.

is second in 'the most
improved category and
has. surged into level 2
with an impressive .727
win -loss mark.

level 4 via two wins last
week. Tim is also
threatening Mike Cox's
level 3 position. Owen
Moriarty has a very
slight lead Over his
brother Mike who in turn
has only a slight lead over
Barry Page in the fight
for third spot in level 4.

Suns win two games
The Suncoast "Suns"
continued to prove that
they are strong con-
tenders in the WOAA,
Atom "B" Division.
The Suns ran their
record to five wins
against only one loss by
edging the Listowel
Cyclones 2 to 1 on
Saturday and then
swamping the league's
new entry from Durham
by a score of 15 to O.
Saturday's game was a
defensive struggle that
featured very strong
penalty killing. Coach

Pincombe shoots high
Bill Pincombe shot the
highest score ever shot in
skeet when he broke 24
with his 12 gauge double
barrel on Saturday.

hit 21.
Fred Brall hit 12.
In total skeet 12 gauge,
Bill Pincombe had 91
percent, Al Kyle had 79
percent, Pete Black had
79 percent, Bill Johnson
had 77 percent, John
Hessels had 72 percent
and Fred Brall had 48
percent. '
John Hessels hit 90
percent in 20 gauge and 84
percent in 28 gauge.
In trap, Bill Johnson hit
a 25 straight for the
highest single round.
score. Next was Al Kyle
with 23, John Hessels
with 21, Pete Black with
20, and Fred Brall with
20.
In total, trap scores
were Bill Johnson 92
percent, John Hessels 84
percent, Fred Brall 80
percent, Al Kyle 78
percent and Pete Black 70
percent.
In trap doubles, Bill
Johnson was way ahead
when he broke 23 out of 13
pair.
Quite aways back was
John Hessels at 20, Pete
Black at 19, Fred Brall at
15 and Al Kyle at 13.
n total trap doubles,
Bill Johnson had 83
percent, John Hessels
had 71 percent, Pete
Black had 61 percent,
Fred Brall had 56 percent
and Al Kyle had 46 per-
cent.

Stangs win

The Clinton Mustangs,
currently the only un-
defeated team in the OHA
Junior "C" Central
Division, narrowly
escaped with ,.a victory
last Friday night in
Goderich. The Stangs
scored a powerpthy goal
at 19-26 of the third period
to defeat Arthur Eagles
10-9.
In the opening period,
the Stangs got off to their
best start this season with
five goals in The first
three minutes of play and
one goal in the last
minute of c;lay. Tim
MacLean scored a hat
trick in the first period
and other marksmen foF
the Stangs were Gary
Peters, Phil Arthur and
Paul Priestap. Arthur
replied with three goals
of their own in the first
period.
The second period was
very scrambly as Arthur
scored a pair of power-
play goals, to move
within one goal of the
Stangs before Tim
MacLean took the heat
off with a powerplay goal,
his, fourth goal of the
night.
Arthur came out
flying in the third period
and scored three fast
goals before the fourth
minute mark to put them
ahead by one: Neil
Colquhoun tied the score
three minutRs later only
to have Arthur go ahead
once again on a power-
play.
John Hart evened the
score at nine goals each
midway through the
.period. The teams battled
back and forth for the
balance of the period,
before Arthur took a
tripping penalty in the
last two minutes of the
game, setting the stage
for.the winning goal on a
,well executed powerplay
by Paul Helesic.
The Stangs record to
date is four wins and two
ties. -

The only scoring came
in the third period. David
Jewell scored first for
Goderich but within a
minute Listowel had tied
the score.
The winning goal for
Goderich was scored by
David Jewell.
The Durham_ joirtfic who
joined the "B" division
this year in search of
better cotnpetition,
definitely had more than
they could handle from
the Suns.
Davey Jewell scored
six goals and had one
assist, Steve Schutz
scored four goals and one
assist and Ronnie
Chapman had two goals.
Singles were scored by
Todd Jeffrey, Darren
Doak, and Todd Gilchrist.
Kevin Talbot, Kelly
Alli, Chris Sideris,
Shawn Larder, Curt
McPherson and .Scott
Garrow all had assists.
Coach Williamson was
pleased that all three
lines and the defence had
shared in the scoring.
The Suns travel to
Hanover this week to try •

only loss of the season.
