Sailors win third straight game
Last Friday night
Goderich Sailors won
their .third game in as
many 'starts with a fine
performance against the
hard skating Mount
Forest. Club. Goderich
won the game 3-1.
Danny Duncan led the
scoring for the Sailors
with two goals while Rick
Fremlin added the third.
Duncan opened the
scoring at 9:54 of the first
period assisted by Paul
Kelly and Dan
Colquhoun.
Rick Fremlin made it 2-
0 at 12:58 of the first
period being assisted by
Steve Buchanan. Duncan
Kelly and Coloquhon
clicked again at the 4:00
mark of the second period
on a fine 'passing play to
give the Sailors a 3-0 lead.
Kevin Barber scored
the only Mt. Forest goal
at 7:21 of the third period
on a rebound kicked out
by Denis Fleshauer who
played flawlessly
throughout the entire
game.
The Sailors travel to
Goderich Sailors netminder Denis Fleshauer did the splits to get
a pad on this shot in a league game against Mount Forest, Friday.
Goderich defeated Mount Forest 3-1 to extend their undefeated
string to three games and hand the visitors their first loss of the

season. Fleshauer's play was a major reason for the Sailor win
Friday. The Sailors will be in Wingham this Friday and will
return home the following Friday for a game against Mildmay.

Merchants on scoring binge

The Merchants ham-
mered Zurich 13-3 in
Zurich, Sunday and,
continued': that torrid
scoring pace with a 12-0
home ice victory over
Thedford, Monday.
The victories were the
third and fourth of the
season for the Merchants
against only one ; loss.
That loss was at the
hands of defending
league champion
Parkhill Merchants. •

Goderich outburst
scoring the first goal of
the . game after six
minutes of play and
added three more goals in
the final period.
Paul Corriveau, Cam
McDonald and Frank
Hagen scored two goal's
each for Goderich while
Phil Paquette, Len Kolk-
man and Barry Bloch
Bantams lose
6-2 to Hanover
Hanover built up a
three goal bulge after two
periods of play Ind went
on to defeat the Goderich
Lakeport Steel Bantams
6-2 to spoil the Steelers
home opener, Saturday.
1 Hanover scored two

and increased their lead
to .three goals with a
single marker in the
second period.
Goderich finally scored
midway through the final
period as Jim Mothers
banged in a Ass from
Don McCallum to pull
Goderich within two
goals of Hanover. But
Hanover scored a minute
later to maintain a three -
goal lead and added two
more goals to -their total
in the final two minutes of
the game.
David Gallow scored
the second Goderich goal
lane in the third period
with Brad Armstrong
assisting.
The Bantams return to
action • in Hanover,
Saturday.

blanked Thedford 12-0 in

Goderich.

Merchants top scorers in
the game with two goals

Len Kolkman chipped
in with four assists and
team-mates Robertson,

Goderich held a four -
goal lead after one period
of play, scored two goals
in the second period and
clinched the win with a
six -goal outburst in the
final period. Petrie and
McDonald scored on
power play opportunities
in the final period.
Goderich netminder
-Doug Spitz,* turned aside

earn his first shutout of
the season.
-The Merchants return
to action next Monday
evening in an 8.30 p.m.
contest against Grand
Bend in the Goderich and
District 'Community
Centre. On Thursday
November 16 they will
play in Centralia.
VVingbacn on Friday night
and do not play at home
until next Friday night at
8:30 against Mildmay,
Coach Bill Gallow has
everyone playing their
best as each player isstill
trying for a sppt on the
team. At present he still
has four goaltenders and
four complete lines to
choose from.
Daer leads
Stars to win
A three -goal per-
formance by Larry Daer
powered the Goderich
Signal -Star juveniles to
their first WOAA league
victory as they dumped
St. Marys 6-2 in Goderich,
Sunday.
Daer broke open a 1-1
game early in the second
period as he scored two
straight goals in a span of
two minutes to pull
Goderich into a lead they
refused to relinquish.
Daer scored his third goal
midway through the final
period to wrap the
Goderich scoring.
The win was the first of
the year for the juveniles
in league play as their
record now stands at one
win, one loss and one tie.
The win Sunday avenged
an earlier 3-2 loss to St.
Marys.
St. Marys held a one -
goal lead in the game
after the first period of
play on a goal by Brendon
MacDonald.
Ian Chisholm tied, the
score for Goderich early'
in the second period a
goal that sparked ,the
Star ffeiic'e:' Daer"`
scored his first goal 20
seconds later and added
his second of the night
after five minutes of the
second period to lift
Goderich into 3-1 lead.
Ron Kirkconnell scored
the final second period
goal to give the Stars a 4-1
lead heading into the fianl
period.
Goderich outscored St.
Marys 2-1 in the third
period with Roger Lewis
and Daer scoring for

contest while St. Marys
took 11.
