THIN, WATERY BLOOD KEEPING. FLT A. TASK
MEANS HEALTHFORPRINCE OF WA
Rich, Red Blood Brings Bright
Eyes and Rosy Cheeks,
The girl who returns home from
eoliool or from work thoroughly tired
out will be fortunate if site escapes a
'physical he
because this get-
ting tired so easily is probably the
first warning symptom et a thinning
?flood that must not be disregarded it
her health is to be preserved.
When the blood becomes thin and
impure the patient becomes pale. She
not only tires out easily but often suf-
fers frou headaches, palpitation of the
heart, dizzy spells and a toes of appe-
tite.
In this condition Dr. Williams' Pink
Pills will be found to have a beneficial
acacia on the blood. Miss Deneb Lal-
freniere, St, Ambrose, ltlau•, has
proved this in her own Casa and ad-
vises others to use these pills. She
says: "Before I began the use of Dr.
Williams' Pink Pills I felt like a von•
plete wreck of nay former self. lily
blood was poor and thio. I suffered
from faint and dizzy spells, and had
backaches mud headaches almost every
day. T decided to give Dr. Williams"
Pink Pills atrial, and by the time I
had need three boxes I felt much bet-
ter and I continued taking the pills
until I felt aa well as I over did. For
what they did in my ease I cannot re:
commend these pills too highly."
Dr. Wltlitarns" Piuk Pills can be ab-
taineti from any dealer in medicine, or
by mall at 50 cents a box or six boxes

HOW 1 -le Spent a Brighton
Holiday Before Setting Out
on the Trip to India.
News despatches• tell of the strenu-
ous official visit to India, of the Prince
of Wales, They do Det tela, however,
of the strain under which the Prince
iabons on trips of state. Nor do they.
intern the public of the rigid train,
ing he must undergo to keep fit, A
royal visit to India, always Is -'trying,
The present .trip is probably the mast
trying yet undertaken by the imperial
family.
For this reason the aura, of romance
which surrounds the young man who
is bravely seeing it through is intens.-
lied rather than diminished by this
great anabassadarial adventure. Even
the ordinary person who in ordinary-
circumstances visits India can hardly
return from that laud of princes. pe-

Preparing for India.
But although he is not obsessed with
the notion of keeping It. the subject
certainly ]las a comfortable share of
his thoughts. This was demonet,rated

which unexpecredly afforded ore an op-

Surnames and Their Origin
STANFORD
Variations—Stanley, Stanleigh, Stan-
field, Stanton, Stainton, Stenlaw..
Racial Origin—Anglo-Saxon,
Source—Localities.
' :here is another group of Anglo•Sax•
on place names which have become
family names. The foregoing varia-
tions, however, are by no means Inclu-
sive of all the "sten” naves.
There are many variations of "stun"
in Ii7ug11sh namee. It seems, as there
are variations of "smith"; perhaps
more, though there are not so many
families bearing them.
The '•stttn" or "stain" in these names
is .simply the Anglo-Saxon for "stone."
Thus the family name of Stanford has
simply been derived from a place,
which. if we were naming it to -day,
we'd probably call "Stoney -Ford."
Stanieigh and Stanley, when the lat-
ter is not an Anglicized form of the
Polish given name of Stanislaws or
Stanislaus, meant originally a stoney
meadowland. Stan tica.ld is easily seen
as stoney field. The "tou" in Stanton
is the old Anglo-Saxon "tun," from
which our word "town" has conic. It
meant an enclosure. •
Finally, StanIaw comes from "sten"
and "lave," "lowe" or ""loe," which, to
the Anglo-Saxon; signified a stall
hill.
Later, at the period when family
names began to form, names of towns
and places such as these were used to
designate persons who formerly lived
in them -not those whio lived in then
at the time, for in that case the name
would lose its valve as an id:entifica-
tree, for thete would be no reason why
it should be born by one resident any
more than another.
DRAPER
Racial Origin ---English,
Source—An occupation.
There seems to be an almost never,
ending &entree of streamer in. the oe.
eupations of luetlfeva;l England, not
withstanding the fact that in those
days the number of emanations and
professions was mere limited than in
our highly specialized industrial and
eommercial organization today. •
Draper is ono of these. To the Eng-
lishman the scarce of this family
name presents no mystery, for the
word is still ie everyday trade use in
his country. But though the same
trade exists in Canada. the trade name
is seldom met with.
The "draper" is a dry goads mer.
chant. And he was back in the Mid-
ddeA;rat the pealed when
til
a
-
Ilei began to expand rap'dly that
in the individual communities there
were not enough given names to go
around, and a roan's neighbors and
acquaintanees in speaking to hem took
la the mention of his occupation or his
parentage to distinguish him from.
some other who bom tete same given
name.
Thus the family name of Draper was
originally descriptive of the merean-
tile calling of its bearers, and, was
preceded by "le," Meaning "the,"
The prefix, however, in later gene-
rations was dropped as useless after
the name became a family one and
ceased to be merely descriptive,
A "balanced diet" may sound
confusing to many people
The facts, as explained
here,- are simple.
Thesecret of a "balanced diet" is to have food.
containing . all the elements needed for proper
nutrition. These ;elements .are protein, to nourish
the tissues; starch and sugar to furnish energy;
fat to supply heat; and mineral salts to provide
the. material necessary for building nerves, brain,
and tooth and bone structure.
