A few days later I was driving into town from the north. I was in the outside (or right side) lane, when a big tran- sport truck drewup beside me - stayed there - so I couldn't cut into the left lane at the turn. For some reason I have always changed lanes before the turn - I can't remember why - but there I am. The fact that the truck stayed right beside me shouldn't have bothered me because I have driven thousands of miles and heavy traffic has never phased me. But it was the feel of the car ' at that point that shook me - it wasn't following a smooth curve something seemed to grab the wheels and I can see how easy it could be to swing into that railing if you were not alert or were driving too fast. I know, now, why others have said it is a BAD CURVE.' Most curves are slanted enough to carry you aroundwhile ....barely :. --Wu•ch-ing---- the--- e -rin g wheel. I would like to know that I am wrong - that the truck beside me was crowding me - I had that feeling, - but I looked at him at the road -- I had plenty of room. I would hope that someone who knows what they are doing . could check that curve and roadbed before someone else gets hurt. AND before someone decides to bring in their own engineers and sue someone perhaps the people who designed that bridge or the town for allowing them to get away with, their mistakes - if any. Surely it could be done while the damage to the railing was being repaired. In the mean- time I'll make sure I am in the left lane early and never have this thrill? again. Sometime this summer I had talked of the watered down bowl of soup - with a few hard beans in it that I was served as BEAN soup. Bean soup is a favorite of mine - if I ever eat out I order juice, since soup is so "filling" but home- made soup - now'that's a real art. Anyway, the other day I stopped for a late coffee break and found just about everyone eating SOUP - and it smelled heavenly. I had heard of Fannie's soup and how good it was - a meal in a bowl - so I ordered soup and toast. Well, you never tasted anything like it. Enough vegetables in it to give it colour and more flavour and those soft beans which- -became creamier as you neared the bottom of the bowl - just delicious. The first thing to taste like "home- made" - as you hope it to be - that I had tasted, outside of home, in years. Goderich is lucky to have restaurants all serving good food. I can't think of one I don't like (I'd probably blab it if I' did.) So now a new one has opened on The Square -- The Court Dining Room - what a nice surprise. This Friday, October 13 the Huron Ladies' Sof- tball League Dance is at Saltford. On Saturday, October 14 is the Rotary Club paper pickup - or leave the bundles at the Sunoco at five points. This is the last pickup of the season, so get them out. On Saturday 14 also is Mr. Friendly's Circus at McKay Hall at 11 a.m. ALL kids - FREE! On Saturday 14, Mary Lynn Telford's Highland Dancing classes start at McKay Hall - downstairs - starting at 10 a.m. Starting this week the "CNIB" - Canadian National Institute for the Blind start. their_ drive. .--. --They-want--to-tell-you_that— —..- their people will ALL have identification and receipt books. Please - DO NOT contribute to anyone without them. The drive runs through to • October 26. On October 17 is the big turkey supper at Lucknow United Church starting at 4:30 to 8 p.m. I. hope you had a nice_ Thanksgiving holiday even tho' the weather was -yuk.k! Do you ever have the job of polishing brass or copper -especially those copper bottom pans? Here is some simple help: Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in the juice of one lemon. If the article is badly stained let it soak for 30 minutes in this and let the acids do the work. Afterwards be Sure to wash it well - or it will turn green, later. Buff with 0000 (4-o's) steel wool. Dry carefully. Deep scratches may need more rubbing - but if a piece is very old - leave some age. Don't over - clean these pieces, they are nicer with that soft patina that comes with age. The piece can be given a protective coating after you have it polished up so nicely. This can be a clear lacquer or an acrylic spray. Be careful to spray directly AT the piece - not at an angle. The piece should be room -warm and the spraying done in a warm room. Have fun.
