Senior - girls
down Exeter
BYTD
The GDCI senior girls
basketball, team extended
their record to three wins
and no losses in Huron -
Perth Conference play
with a pair of victories
Tuesday, playing in
Stratford, the Goderich
girls won 43-34. Thur-
sday, in the friendly
confines .of the GDCI
gym, they outclassed
Exeter South Huron, 41-
20.
Coach Donna Doidge's
girls got off to a slow start
in Stratford and the
teams were deadlocked
at 19-19 at the half.
However; -in the -second-
half, the Vikings press
began to work, and that
along with a fine
defensive effort by Karen
Melady, allowed the
GDCI team to play their
game and come out on
top.
Audrey Vandenheuvel,
with 12 points, and Lucie
Turpotte, with 10, led the
Vikings offence. Denise
Mitchelmore threw in six
points and Anne Marie
Murphy had four for the
winners. _ __-..___ _._ _....
• The Vikings had some
difficulty solving
Exeter's man-to-man
defence in the first half
but still held a 30-15 lead
at half-time.
Audrey ,Vandenheuvel"
was the games top
scorer with 17 points, in
what coach Doidge called
"a tremendous offensive
of fort'' .
Joni Thompson hit for
10'points andHeidi Elliott -
added eight.
The GDCI girls go after
win number four in
Seaforth today(Thur-
sday), and play at home
next Tuesday against St.

The GDCI junior .girls
basketball team split. a
pair of Huron -Perth
Conference games last
week, losing, 35-16, to
Stratford Central in
Stratford Tuesday, and
winning, 41-17, over
Exeter South Huron here
Thursday.
Against •Stratford, the"

first half and trailed by
only two points; 14-12, at
half-time. However,
coach John Geiger's gals
ran into problems in the
second half. Geiger felt
his team just gave up,
giving in to . a
psychological barrier
they have concerning the
Stratford team. He feels
if his team could come up
with one win -'over Cen-
tral, there would be no
stopping them from
there.
Kathryn Mohrown led
the Stratford attack with
13 points.
Sonja Lapaine was the
GDCI top scorer with
nine points. Marg Conlon
had four, while Robin
MacDonald had two
points and Sharon Bur -
bine one for the losers.
Geiger was more
pleased with his team's
play against Exeter,
crediting his girls with
good, aggressive play on
both offence and defence.
Mary Conlon led
Goderich with 16 points.
Tracy Jewell added nine
and Sonja Lapaine got
six. Robin MacDonald,
with four points, Teresa
Kovacs, with three, Barb
Conlon, with two, and
Janice McClinchey, with
one point, were the other
Viking scorers.
Barb Riddell, with 11
points, was Exeter's best."
The Vikingsrrecord-now
stands at two wins and
one loss, going into'
today's game in Seaforth.
