This also includes representatives on the school boards. Anyone interested in a municipal elected office, plan to attend. Ratepayers take an in- terest in your township affairs and make a special effort to attend and give your support as this is important. COUNTRY FAIR The Christmas Country Fair to be held in Saltford Valley Hall, Wednesdak, -October -18 an •i -Saturday October 21 will be an event of special interest to so many. Besides what I mentioned before in this column, there will be the usual splendid display off candles for every oc- casion. The Flower Pot display; dolls that are so attractive, also the raffia dolls; china paintings and pottery by various ar- tists; basketry; novelties; chaircaning; wooden toys; mosaic glass; barnboard pain- tings; leathercraft; decoupage; herbs and herb cookery; antiques, paintings by area artists; country sketches; candy, honey, apples, maple syrup; and a wonderful display of garden products including the hallowe'en pumpkins. Then there is always that ever popular home-made baking? home made relishes and jams and jellies. One could spend a whole day seeing the wonderful things, picking out Christmas gifts or' something for them- selves, enjoying ,tthe delicious lunches you can get right there and visiting with ,friends. Where could/ you get anywhere near all this for an admission charge of .25 cents' There is so much fo/so little. See you at the fair. 4-H NEWS Tiger Dunlop Group no. 2 »Crunchier Crew" met ,for their third meeting on / Thursday, October 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of their leader, Mrs. Brenda Thompson. The meeting opened with the Pledge followed by the roll call which was "my favourite break- fast" The secretary gave her report and it was decided to have the next meeting Thursday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of the assistant leader, Mrs. Fielder. Discussion was on the carried lunch and adding life to your lunch. Demonstrations were. by Mrs. Thompson and Barbara Clark who made white sauce by the creamed fat method and also potato cheese chowder and by Sheila Fisher who made white sauce by the melted fat method combined with a vegetable. The girls than discussed different kinds of creamed soups and various. toppings to garnish these. Gordon Kaitting has been making several trips to London the past month to visit her sister, Mrs. Beatrice Geiger, who is a patient in University Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Bogie were- among the ones having their baby baptized at the baptismal service at Knox Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Karen Louise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Harrison of Goderich and grand - for Colborne Towns daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Harrison, Saltford was among the babies baptized at Knox Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Guests visiting Mrs. L. Pope last week were her son Mr. and Mrs. James. Pope of Waterloo, Quebec and her daughter, Mrs. Velma Lowson of Toronto. Thanksgiving holiday weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. R. Buchanan were their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Marz and son Nathan of Hamilton and their son Mr. and Mrs. Ron Buchanan and children Lisa, Leslie and Tim of St. Thomas. W.I. Tiger Dunlbp Women's Institute October meeting will be one day earlier than usual. It will be on Wednesday, October 25 at 1:45 pm in Colborne Township Hall. The guest speaker will be Miss Mary Luanne Clare who will speak on her trip to the United Nations. Make plans now to attend. Visitors are welcome. This istric ne Taught kindergarten MISS E'STHER PATTERSON HUME Miss Esther Patterson Hume /died suddenly at her home in Goderich on Friday, October 6. /She was born in Campbellford, Ontario to John Patterson and Ida ( White) Hume. She moved from Camp- bellford to Waterford in 1906 and then to Goderich in 1911 where her father, J.P. Hume, was principal of the Collegiate Institute until 1935. " The late Miss Hume attended Toronto Normal School and taught kin- dergarten in Victoria Public School in Goderich for 34 years from I928 to 1962. She was made an honorary member of the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario in 1963. She was also president of the Victoria Home and Harbor by Ron Graham September 25 the Algoway arrived light from Windsor for salt. September 26 the Algoway cleared harbor for Holland, Michigan with salt. September 27 the Agawa Canyon arrived light from Windsor for salt. September 27 the Agawa Canyon cleared harbor for Manestee and St. Imance, Michigan with salt. October 1 the Prindoc arrived from . Thunder Bay with grain. She was active until the day of her death in the Goderich Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of North Street United Church and was on the Board of Stewards of that church, active in the U.C.W. and also active in the North Street United Church choir. She is survived by one nephew, James Pat- terson Hume of Toronto and one niece, Mary Esther Seedhouse of Webster, New York. A funeral service was held at McCallum Funeral Horne in Goderich at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 8. The Reverend Arthur Gar- dner conducted the service. Janine Mayhew sang an anthem.. The children were given two candies, one to be given to sorrieone,without one and then went to their classes. Rev. John Oestreicher spoke on "Thankfulness". Mr. Doug Norman and Mr. Frank Thompson received the offering. The fourth meeting of the Cuisine Cookers 4-H club was held at the home of Kate Doorly. The roll call was answered by naming "the soup recipe found based on white sauce". The members read from their biscuits and planned a theme for their party, which is Halloween, each member is to bring a friend that doesn't belong to 4-H. The teams were chosen with Kate- Doorly and Mary Jean Betties as leaders. Kate's team made wheat germ biscuits, while Mary Jean's made cheese and bacon swirls. Each member tasted the biscuits and swirls. At the present time, the Clinton Legion Branch is sponsoring a literary contest among the pupils on these topics: the significance of remembrance; what confederation means to me; why I wear a poppy; the role of the senior citizen in our society. The categories for this school are these: categories 11, grades 6, 7 and 8 - (1) a composition of not more than 500. words or (2) a poem of not more than 32 lines. Categories 111, grades 1-5 - a composition of not more than 350 words. This contest is sponsored by Legions throughout Canada. This cross-country will be held on Tuesday, October 24 in Hullett- Kinburn area. Rain date for the event will be October 25. In the month of October,, an election will be held to determine the executive of the student council. Pupils who are �iigible are encouraged to participate in this worthwhile group, who, in the past, have given excellent support to the school. Special dates - Wed- nesday, October 11 soccer tournament; Wednesday, October 24, cross- country, raindate, October 25; Monday, October 30, no school for pupils, professional achievement day. Variety night The Goderich Township Women's Institute will hold a Variety night on Thursday, October 26. This will. include local talent from the township. The show commences at 8:15 p.m. and the tickets will be $2 each for adults, and $1 for high school students, public school children, free. Personals Miss Pat Harris was home with her family for Thanksgiving. Miss Shirley Norman was home with her family for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Isobel Harris enjoyed several days in London visiting with her sister, Irene Durnin. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Feagan opened their home for a Thanksgiving,.:' dinner and had as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Doug Feagan and Jean, Jane Carter and Kelly, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Harris. Womens Institute The October meeting of the Goderich Township Women's Institute was held October 11 ..at 8:15 p.m. in the Holmesville School. The meeting opened with Molly Cox at the piano. Mrs. Hazel McCreath president, chaired the meeting. Mrs. Alice Porter read the secretary's report and correspondence, and a discussion was held on the ladies going to assist in a birthday party at Huronview October 18. The Clinton Women's Institute has invited the ladies to their meeting October 26 in the Agricultural Office, Clinton. Mrs. Hazel McCreath thanked the ladies who helped at the plowing match and for the baking they did. Roll call was answered by the mem- bers on . "what we have learned from young people". A discussion was held on the Variety Night coming up in October. The meeting was then turnedover to Mrs. Marion Powell in- troducing the , guest speaker Mrs. Jean Durst of Seaforth, who told the ladies of her garden and many uses she has for what she grows, for drying and processing them. It was a very in- teresting evening wat- ching her prepare many beautiful arrangements. • Mrs. Powell thanked Mrs:)` Durst for coming. ,The , ladies then enjoyed putting their arrangements together with the help of Mrs. Durst. This earlier date means that the time available for enumeration and the preparation of the Preliminary List of Electors was shorter than it has been in the past. Also, the time allowed for the Municipal Clerk to revise the list has been cut back as well. To make certain that you get your vote on November 13 inlhe correct poll, please be sure to go and check the Preliminary Lists of Electors which the Municipal Clerk will be posting soon. Watch your news- paper, for an advertisement telling you where and when the Lists will be available for revision. Separate School supporters should also make a point of checking the lists. The way you are shown will not only determine which school trustees you can Vote for, but may also affect the direction of the education part of your property tax in 1979. The municipal clerk has a list of people entitled to direct school taxes and this list can be revised up to Friday, October 27, 1978.
