OCTOBER 5? 1978 Most instruments in the La caster airplane appear - to be capable of restorat an without undue dif- ficulty, according' to Eric Grove, co-ordinator of Lancaster Restoration. Mr. Grove works for the Canadian Warplane Heritage Inc., which acquired 11 the plane from the Goderich Branch of the Royal Canadian -Legion. This year .small internal, Items, and some canopy perspex has been worked on and the aircraft has been cleaned and sealed externally and secured against weather, says Mr. Grove. Still hope for Lancaster... • from page 1 A of damage make this undesirable. - Transport by air ferry is also being explored. If we are unable to fly the airplane to Mt. Hope before next year, we shall protect it against the weather, and try again next year. Meanwhile, rrilich behind -the -scenes'. .-.ac- tivity has taken place. Communication has been established with the two museums that • have 'Lancasters' flying, and much valuable restoration ` information has been obtained. , The RC.A.F. pilots and crew members of FM 213 have provided much of the operational history of the airplane...'213 had a colorful career, taking part in several rescue Operations from the Azores to the Arctic, and acting as escort for I would like to em- phasize, in concluding this update,' that Canadian Warplane Heritage will restore the 'Lancaster', just as soon as funds and arrangements permit. The delay is regrettable but is not serious and, hopefully, will not' -be too long. Kinsmen Club onates $25,000 The. Kinsmen Club of Goderich recently held their first general meeting at the Kin Centre under the direction of this year's .president, Dave Cloet. The club has been very active over the summer months and reported a very, successful Summer -Carnival, traditionally several Royal Flights. held the third weekend in We shall eventually July on The Square. Three and all have en- thusiastically offered to participate in the restoration. Their first tangible evidence was a financial donation! Thus, apart from minor clean up and external protection, there is little tangible evidence of restoration. This is very disappointing for us and undoubtedly for many persons in Goderich. But with new engines needed, restoration costs reach the six -figure level almost at once, and a major funding campaign is required. This part of the work has- only just been commenced because we have been active on . the other aspects. Donation funds of this scale now ap- ptfrent will take time and much effort. Important as it is, it is only ,part. of the total restoration programs of Canadian Warplane ' Heritage, Needless to say, Heritage , would welcome any help from readers. • • new projects were discussed. Funds raised this year will primarily be chan- nelled into three areas: the Kin Centre on South Street which houses the workshop for the Goderich and District Mentally Handicapped Adults; Cystic Fibrosis, the district's project; and the Goderich Kinsmen's Octogenarian program. The club also supports the Arena Roof Fund, minor sports and numerous other programs. The Kinsmen Club of Goderich was pleased to announce that last. year through the support of the citizens of Goderich and district, it was able to donate close to $25,000 to the community and hopes to do even better this year. On a national leve it was announced 'on t occasion of , the Association of Kinsmen Clubs' ' Annual Con- vention, held this year in Regina, that the association donated $43,416,629,45 through their 588 Kinsmen Clubs from coast to coast to Canadian' communities. Mr. Don Masterson, last year's national president of the association, stated, "At an average of over $93,000- - per club, our association continues to be one of the world's most effective service clubs. Kinsmen is Canada's All Canadian Service Club and is the only. major service club founded in Canada. The Kinsmen Club of Goderich is' one of 588 clubs ' in Canada and is presently in its 32nd year dedicated 'to Godericli's greatest needs. Two of, the objects of Kin are to traintheir members in modern business and professional ethics, and to carry on service work in their community.
