Last Sunday a'fternobn
many former members
and friends returned to
Holmesville for the
church's centennial
celebrations
Jack Burghardt, a
newscaster from CFPL-
TV . London brought a
Challenging message to
the overflow crowd on the
subject, "Tomorfow is
Now:" '
Two former
Rev. Clifford
ministers,
Park and
Rev. Stuart Miner,
brought greetings as well
as Goderich Township
Reeve and Wardenof
Huron County, Gerry
,•Ginn. Other greetings
were read from former
ministers and members.'
.The worship service
was under the direction of
Rev. Stuart Miner, Exeter, who preached in Holmesville
,from 1943-1944; guest speaker Jack Burghardt from CFPL-
TV, London and an active layman; present minister at
Holmesville, Rev. John'Oestrelcher and former minister
Rev. Clifford Park, London who preached in the church
from 1961-1966 were on hand Sunday morning, The men all
took part in two 'special centennial services at Holmesville

The congregation and officials at the Holmesville
United Church were attentive on Sunday morning
as Mr. and Mrs.. Hugh Lobb sang a special. duet. The
duet was part of the special events, along with a
birthday cake, special words from Gerry. Ginn,

a duet.
A''new pulpit Bible was
dedicated in memory of
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Yeo
and was given as a gift to
the church by the Yeo
family.
A large birthday cake
was • part of the
celebrations with Mrs. M.
Huller, one of the senior
members of the
congregation lighting the
birthday candles, The
music director Hugh
Lobb wrote a special'
hymn which will now
become the theme song
for the church's cen-
tennial year.
The next event of
celebrations will be a
musical night to be held
on -Sunday, 1 'overplier 5
at 8 pm. This will consist
of a musical presentation
by the Harbouraires
under theme direction of
Lorne Dotterer and the
Middlesex Junior Far-
mer's Choir under the
direction of Bill Telfer.
The words to the
special hymn, "Our Little
Country Church" are:
Let us give thanks to
those who came,
To this great land of ours,
Who settled on these hills
and plains,
And trusted in God's
powers.
Who built this church we
know today,
To teach God's truth and
Love,
That those who follow
may some way,
Have some guidance
from above.
Refrain;
With a steadfast faith the
people prayed,
Throkkgh all the long past
years.
In this little church,
we've come to love,
And hold so very dear.
Through times of trouble
toil and pain,
A comfort here.
remained,
Where people could look
out beyond,
The state on earth that
reigned.
A place to share in joyful
deeds,
Of worship in God's sight,
Where people ._ can serve_
as they wish,
With at face thats glowing
bright.

Now we must try to do
our part,

So that our children may
find strength,
To overcome their fears.
With doors and windows
