The victories move
Gords into a one -game
lead in the best -of -fire
semi-final after McGees
took the opening game of
the series.
Gords evened up the
series at one game apiece
with a 10-1 victory at
Agriculture Park Sunday . runs in the second inning
and then took the series capitalizing on hits and
errors. They added a
single run in the third
inning and' three more in
the fifth on the strength of
a Jim Ginn homer.
Warren Watt provided
the offensive spark for
Gords belting four hits off
two Pontiac pitchers in
four trips to the plate. He
dou'led in a run in the
lead with a 5-3 win
Monday.
Des Courtney stopped
the Pontiacs on a three -
hitter Sunday while his
team-mates rallied for 10
runs behind an eight -hit
attack.
Gords scored a single
run in the first inning
before exploding for five
Company earns berth in
Canada Company
entered the Industrial
Softball League finals
Sunday dumping French
Dry Cleaners 8-2 to win
the Dunlop Division title
and the right to battle the
+ Maitland Division win-
ners for the cham-
pionship.
The win was the thrid of
the series for Canada
Company who wrapped
the best -of -five semi-final
series in four games.
Canada Company won
the first game of the
series 5-4, but French
rallied with an 8-0 victory
in the second game. The
Company won the crucial
third game of the series 2-
1 behind a four -hit effort
by pitcher Stan Doherty. •
Doherty_was_ Qu .the_
mound again Sunday to
lead the Company to the
series victory.
Canada Company took
an early lead in the game
scoring two runs in the
bottom half of the first
inning on five hits. Glen
Tigert led off the inning
with a triple and scored
on Bill Durst's triple.
Durst then scored on
Brian Bowman's single.

fourth inning as Mike
Donnelly scored and took
an eight -run lead in the
game with a five -run
rally in the fifth inning.
Bowman, Doherty, Dave
MacKenzie,; Donnelly and
Pat Conlon scored `fifth
inning runs for Canada
Company.
French scored their
only two runs of the game
in the sixth inning as Bill
Gallow and Frank
MacDoifald crossed the
plate. -on--hits b -y George
Sutton and Ron Klages.
Durst and Donnelly
sparked the Company
offence with three hits
apiece and they also
scored two runs apiece.
Bowman added two hits
in four trips to the plate.
Ray Klages was the top
French batter with two
hits.
Doherty went the
distance in the victory
while Don McWhinney
took the loss for French.
Canada C9rn.pan_y. w.in...-
now play the winner of
the Gords and McGee
series for the league
championship. Gords
currently leads that
series by one game.
A member of Gord's Sports slides safely into home as the ball'

added their second win of the series Monday with a 5-3 victory.
Glendale wins

The GDCI senior girls
basketball team hosted a.
pre -season tournament
here Saturday. Eigift
teams competed, with a
strong Glendale team
winning in the finals over
last years champions,
Lambton Central.
Other teams competing
were Walkerton, • Strat-
ford Central, Sarnia St.
Patrick's, Sarnia Nor-
thern, College Avenue of
Woodstock and the host
GDCI team. .
Coach Donna Doidge's
GDCI squad defeated
Walkerton 44-26 in their
opening game. The
Vikings were paced by
Audrey Vandenheuval's
12 . points and 10 points.
scored by Lucie Turcotte.
Heidi Elliott and Joni
Thompson added six
points each and Bonnie
Reid had four.
The Vikings lost their
second game to a strong
Lambton Central team.
Although the score was•
tied at half-time, the
Lambton Central team
pulled away from the
shorter Goderich girls in
the final two quarters.
• Audrey Vandenheuvel
again was GDCI's top
scorer with 12. Lucie
Turcotte hit for 10 points
while Karen Melady and
Heidi Elliott chipped in
with four points each.

his teams eight hits but
failed to score a run.
Jim Ginn chipped in
with two hits, a run -
scoring double in the
second inning and two -
run homer in the fifth.
Losing pitcher Ken
Daer was the -Pontiacs
top batter With a double
and single in two trips to
the plate. Ron Sowerby
scored the only McGee
run in the sixth inning,
scooting home on a bases
loaded error.
Courtney pitched a
strong game allowing one
run on just three hits
across seven innings. He
walked four batters and
struck out six.
McGees got their bats
working in the third game
of the series outhithing
Gords 9-6 but they fell
short in the run depar-
tment as Gords won 5-3.
Gords took a one -run,
lead in the first inning as
Watt singled'. stole second
and scored. on 'throwing
errors. They increased
their lead to four runs
with a three -run outburst
in the third inning on a
run producing single by
Jon Ginn and a double by
Phil Petrie. They added
their fifth . run in the
fourth inning as Rick
McLean doubled in
Dennis Williamson.
The Pontiacs got back
in the game in their half
of the fourth as Ken Darr
led off with a homer and
Rick Sowerby and Paul
Kelly. added runs to lift
firl.al
the Pontiacs to within two
runs.
They threatened in•both
the fifth and seventh
innings but were unable
to get the clutch hits,
leaving two runners_
stranded in each inning.
Courtney picked up his
second win of the series
and Rick . Sowerby took
the loss.
Six Gords batters
shared in the six hit at-
tack. Ken Vanderburgh,
Daer and Ken Meriam
had two hits apiece for
McGees.
