The Goderich Signal-Star, 1978-09-28, Page 11Jack Worship service was held Sunday in the Holmesville United Church. Children at- tended their classes in the Sunday School rooms. Mr. Stewart Farquhar and Mr. Harold Jantzi received the offerings. Scott and Peggy Scott presented their daughter Leslie Dawn Marie to Rev. J. Oestreicher for baptism, Joan Switzer of Clinton being a God- parent. Next Sunday in Holmesville United Church they will be starting to celebrate their 100th birthday. Service will be at 2 pm with the senior choir in at- tendance. Former ministers will be bringing their greetings. Guest speaker for the service will be the well known nQws _csunmenta_tor _of_ ,CFPL - TV London, Jack Burghardt. After the service, there will be a friendship hour in the church hall with birthday cake and coffee. A surprise parcel game was played with Bonnie the eventual winner. Co -hostesses were Mrs. William Cox, Mrs. Letitia Riddle, Mrs. John Wubs, Mrs. William Townshend, and Mrs. Don Harris. The many beautiful gifts were presented to the bride to be by Miss Jary Jean Betties and Pat and Cheryl, sisters of Bonnie. A bridal bonnet was made and a lovely corsage completed the bride's evening outfit. Round dance club The Huron Happy Heart Round Dance Club began their weekly dances for the season at the Holmesville Public School on Friday evening MR. AND MRS. D.J. HOFFMEYER Wed recently St. George's Anglican Church Goderich was decorated with white daisies and coral gladioli on Thursday, August 31 at 6:30" p.m. for the wedding which united in marriage Brenda Joy Harrison and Douglas John Hoffmeyer. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Harrison, Goderich and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffmeyer, R.R. 2, Goderich. The Rev. Robert Crocker officiated at the double - ring candelight ceremony. The bride's godfather, the Rev. Thomas Griffin of Ingersoll. assisted with Holy Communion. Guest organist, Paul Howe, played the traditional wedding march while the bride was escorted down the aisle by her father. The bride was given in marriage by her parents. She wore her mother's formal length wedding gown of antique lace over ivory satin. The dress featured a lace hood, bell sleeves and a cathedral train. She wore a gold pendant, gift of the groom and a gold stick, pin which belonged to her great-grandmother. She carried a bouquet of miniature coral roses, stephanotis, myrtle and gypsophilia. The maid of honor, Miss Linda Dougherty of Uoderich, friend of the bride, wore a coral sleeveless gown of of jersey knit with an accordiari pleated skirt and matching chiffon cape. She wore daisies in her hair and carried a nosegay of coral carnations and white daisies. The groom wore a light brown three-piece suit. Barry Hutchinson, Goderich, friend of the groom, was groomsman. He wore a three-piece light brown suit. The ushers were John and Jeff Harrison, brothers of the bride. During the signing of the register the organist played "The Hawaiian Wedding Song". A family dinner was held in the solarium at Ben - miller Inn. The tables were decorated with bouquets of 'summer flowers. The wedding cake which was made by the bride's great-aunt, Mrs. Hugh Ball, was decorated with tiny coral roses. Following the dinner, gtests were entertained at the home of the brid'e's parents. For her daughter's wedding the bride's mother chose a floor -length gown of icy jade matte jersey, softly draped in blouson style with cape sleeves. The groom's mother wore a floor length gown of French blue crepe de chine fashioned with tiny jacket and self loop trim. Both the bride's and bridegroom's mother wore corsages of white carnations. For travelling to the Maritimes the bride changed to a three-piece ensemble in shades of mulberry and plum. Prior to the wedding the bride was feted at several social gatherings. A miscellaneous shower was held at the Hoffmeyer home with hostesses Miss Linda Dougherty and Miss Lynda Hoffmeyer; a_. miscellaneous shower was held at Mrs. Hugh Ball's home and the staff of Gerrards held a wine and cheese party at the home of Mrs, Edna Pollock.' • A stag mid doe party Wes also held for the bide and groom at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles. Puller. The groom's parents entertained at. their home following the wedding rehearsal. September 1S with a. good attendance under the direction, of Edward and Lois Wise. On Wednesda. y evening, September 20, the club was invited to dance at the Brookside Public School when the summer beginner class graduated. Guests were present from Grand Bend, Bayfield, Goderich, Clinton, Londesboro, Auburn, Lucknow, Kincardine, Hanover, Walkerton, Howick. After the graduates had danced a few initiation dances, they were presented with diplomas and pins by the Wises. A gift was presented to the instructors by the class and the Howick Club gave a gift of ap- preciation for the mon- thly dances that Edward -and -Lois -held -this -ye-ay.:- Lunch was served by the graduates and lovely graduation cake was cut and served by the Wises. School news Please note on the kindergarten calendars the following error; Thursday, September 28 should be a "B" day instead -of -an "A" day as typed on the calendar, thus making Friday, September 29 an,. "A" day. Soccer Tournament Girls and boys teams from this school will participate in a soccer competition on Wed- nesday, October 11. Rain• date is the 13th. A cross country competition will take place on Tuesday, October 24 with representatives from our school in attendance. Reportswill be sent home on Wednesday, October 18. The reports will deal with the at= titudes that the pupils have developed toward their various respon- sibilities. School band member-and-act1veiaymon in -the United church of Canada. Personals Following the Baptism service on Sunday the families of baby Leslie Scott gathered at the home of her grand- parents, Mr. and 1VIrs. Don Switzer, Rattenbury St., Clinton for a social time. Holmesville 1 4-H The second meeting of the Holmesville 1'4-H was held September 18 at the home of Debbie Mathers. The meeting opened with the members repeating the pledge and creed. The secretary's report was read. A discussion was held on a name for the club. Reading from the members pamphlet "breakfast what is in it for me, breakfast skip- per's scramble, break- fast need not be boring, b'rekfasr ideas,anis menus. From the brunch page, teams were chosen with Lynda Schondeals and Mary Jean Bettles as captains. Lynda prepared a yogurt loaf, Mary Jean energy squares. Each member tasted what was made. -.
