Canada reports that
Ontario enrolment is
down four percent.
This decline in students
has had an effect on St.
James Separate School in
Seaforth, where the
decrease is 4.6 percent.

the Huron -Perth County
Area deaths
MRS. M. E. WESTLAKE
Mrs. Mary Etha
Westlake, Huronview,
formerly of Saltford, died
September 25 in Victoria
Hospital, London at the
ageof77.
She was the daughter of
John Edward and Mary
(McBrien) Elliott and
was born in Goderich
township October 22,
1900. She lived in
following a short illness.
She was 88. She was the
former 'Gertrude E.
Asquith, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Alfred Asquith.
She was predeceased by
her husband, Francis
Oliver Mcllveen in
August 1956.
Mrs. Mcllveen was a
member of Knox
Presbyterian Church,
Oshawa. She lived in
Goderich Township until , Bowmanville for 20 years
moving to Saltford in 1953 before moving to Oshawa

the past 2 kar.
She is si vived by six
sons, Frank (Tony) of
Oshawa; Glen of
Mississauga ; .Dr. Charles
of Oshawa; Don of
Oshawa; Dr. Gilbert of
Grand. Prairie, Alberta;
and Eric of Woodstock.
There are .23 grand-
children and nine great
grandchildren.
-Funeral service was
Monday morning, Sep-
tember 25 in the Arm-
strong Funeral Home at
Oshawa with the Rev. Dr.
Arthur Gowland of-
ficiating.
Interment was in Ball's
Cemetery, Auburn,
Monday. afternoon, with
the Rev. G. L. Royal of
Goderich presiding. Six
grandsons acted as
pallbearers.
She is survived by her
husband, William John
Westlake, whom she
married June 16, 1926 in
Victoria United Church,
Goderich, where • Mrs.
Westlake was still a
member at death.
She is survived by one
brother, David Elliott,
Huronview. She was
predeceased by two
sisters, Mrs. Percy
(Gertrude) Speiran and
Mrs. James (Blanche)
Young, and one 'brother,
William.
Funeral service will be
tgday, Thursday, Sep-
tember 28; at 2 p.m. at
Stiles Funeral Home with
the.Rev. John D. M. Wood
officiating. Interment
will be in Bayfield
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be
Charles Wain, Harry
Phillips, Lloyd Sowerby,
Thomas Sowerby, James
' ' Reid and Everett
Mcllwain.

County
ratifies
contract

Huron County council
ratified an 18 month
agreement with' em-
ployees in its public
health unit giving staff
there a four percent -in-
crease effective July 1,
1978 and a 6.5 percent
increase effective
January 1, 1979.
Council accepted the
recommendation of its
negotiating committee
for salaries for public
health inspectors,
secretarial and clerical
workers and the county
dental assistant. -
The increase brings the
starting wage for public
health inspector to
$13,260, an increase of
$510, and the wage of an
inspector with five years
service to $16,640, an
increase of $640. Those
wages are effective as of
July 1, 1978.
Inspectors will be
making $14,118 to start in
1979 and after five years
experience will be
making $17,706 a year.
A senior secretary -
steno and secretary
bookkeeper will be
making $8,606 to start
January 1, 1979 and after
four years will be making
a maximum $10,920.
A secretary -steno and
clerk technician will get
$8,112 to start to a.
maximum $10,426 after
four `years sand a clerk -
typist and dental
assistant will be making
$7,670 to start to a
maximum $9,958' after
four years.
Added responsibilities
and qualifications em-
ployees have will be
worth $442 a year under
the January 1 contract. A
senior health inspector,
an employee .with a
plumbing inspection
certificate, employees
with a Bachelor of
Science Degree or a
related equivalent will be
receiving $442 a year.
Staff with an en-
vironment health ad-
ministrator certificate
will be receiving $260 a
year.
Roman Catholic Separate
School board in Dublin
Monday night -it was
reported that the kin-
dergarten classroom has
been closed and the four
pupils have been in-
tegrated in the Grade 1
class.

sferred to Dublin to St.
Patrick's School where
she will teach half days,
as she did in Seaforth.
