The union had revealed last month it would drop charges if the company tried to influence the OPP to drop charges against strikers which were initiated by the company. However, 29 persons still faced charges Monday • and Huron -Crown Attorney Garry Hunter said: "W e '11 definitely be proceeding with some of them." She has also lived in large centres like Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal, fa November she moved td Goderich with her husband who works for Champion _and their youngest of four daughters who is at- tending Grade 13 at G.D.C.I. Whenever you move, there are certain ad- justments to be made and having ahobby often makes those adjustments easier, feels Mrs. Knight. In Montreal, she belonged to a weavers' guild and she found Mrs. Hardy's •, name through the guild's directory. So, when she arrived in Goderich, she contacted Mrs. Hardy, introduced herself and asked her about starting a weaver's guild in ,Gaderich. The closest one she had heard of was located in London and that would be too difficult to get to in the winter. With Mrs. Hardy's contacts and an ad placed in the newspaper, the two women were able to gather together about 14 interested weavers. They met at Mrs. Knight's house for the first time in. May and called them- selves The Huron Tract Spinners and Weavers. The group has been meeting monthly ever since. Mrs. Knight gave demonstrations of Weaving at the art mart in the summer. Last week she gave a demonstration to a Women's Institute group. She is also willing to take in students but says she would almost need a loom for each student as she doesn't like to tie up her -own four harness loom for too long. The Scandinavian countries have "mar- vellous schools" to teach weaving and design, says Mrs. Knight. SPINNING AND DYEING Mrs. Knight, who also •belongs to the- Ontario Hand Weavers and Spinners, says she doesn't do much spinning because it takes a lot of time. But now and again she does make her own yarn. She takes raw fleece and cards it or combs it to get the fibres in a straight line. Then she spins it on a wheel which twists the fibres and gives them strength. Mrs. Knight also does some nature dyeing. Rather than using chemicals to dye the wool a certain color, she uses natural products like onion skins, goldenrods, apple bark, rhubarb root and walnuts. Depending on the colour you want, you select one of these products, soak it in water for a few days, bring -it to a boil, strain out the liquid and put the wool in this liquid. You can bring this mixture to a simmer, leave it for an hour, cook it- down and rinse it off. This is a time-consuming art but the wool is then dyed' the natural color you want. Mrs. Knight says she would also like to take up the art of pottery as she thinks she would enjoy working with 'clay on a wheel. But, for now she finds that her present hobby is lime -consuming GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR:, TIILIRSpAY, SPirgIVIRgia *1,1978"Pgg enough. She often attends workshops at •-various places to upgrade her skills and since she is interested in helping others find enjoyment through a hobby such as weaving like she herself has found, she is a real asset to the community. • 4. • • Mrs.• RuIRigiit of Goderiehls, shoivn here making a wove0hawl on a triangle..-•framei Weaving - can be a very time-consuining art, and the materials are expensive.
