Bantan..s ..win league crown
but lose cup garne to Sarnia
The Goderich Culligan
Bantam Soccer Team
en led their season as
League Champions in the
Sarnia -St. Clair Shores
League. They also ended
up in first place in a cup
play-off but lost the semi-
finals on Saturday 9 Sept.
78 to Dante Club of
Sarnia. The score was 3 -
2 for Dante. Scorers for
Goderich were Mike
Wedlock and Mike
Reynolds.
The Goderich team
played a good game from
start to finish as they
were bent on going into
rials:; _ but—un-
fortunately
as t. -un -fortunately that hope was
quashed.
Every member of the
team played to their best
and the team was
plagued with injuries due
. to high school football so
some players were not up
to their previous ability
but their heart was in the
game. Larry Boyce, the
goalie played an ex-
cellent game and -he was
covering every angle of
the other team. He
stopped some excellent
shots. Mark • Webb,
George Kerr, Randy.
Stoddard and Mike
Wedlock gave 100 percent
in an attempt to win.
The coach Mery Witter
felt he had a good team
this season and that the
players performed ex-
cellently for him in every
game. He states they
were +ta good bunch of
kids. He is looking for-
ward to defending this

next year and he feels
that Goderich can win the
league again. The team
will only lose a few
players next year but
there are excellent
replacements coming up
from the Pee -Wee ranks.
Congratulations to the
Goderich Bantams. for
being league champions
and runners-up in the cup
game. •
Although a small town,
Goderich hq,s outclassed
its city rivals in the
league...
The team has had good
spectator support from
the residents of and
around, Goderich and the
players and coach really
appreciated it. The coach
also wishes to thank the
parents for'theirsupport
all season especially to
the out of town games. He
hopes they will do the
same next season.
Whenever the league
trophy arrives in
Goderich it will be
displayed at a . con-
spicuous place for all to
see.
