Colborne couple celebrat
Congratulations are in
order for Mr. and Mrs.
Maitland . Montgomery,
who celebrated their 25th
wedding anniversary on
Saturday, September 9.
Mr. and Mrs. Mon-
tgomery's children and
son-in-law, Brian
Stothers, honored their
oarents with a lovely
celebration including a
dance at the Saltford
Valley Hall with music
supplied by "Bitter -
Sweet Orchestra" of
Goderich and later many
of the guests went to their
home to offer best wishes
and congratulations.
Their special day is
really September 12 and
those in the wedding
party of 25 years ago who
were able to be present
were the Maid of Honor,
Mrs. Marion DeSilva of
Bermuda, bridesmaid,
Mrs. Virgiania Patterson
of Goderich, flower girl,
Mrs. Willa Bogie of
Saltford . and George
Westlake, an usher.

present.

gathered in Colborne
Township Hall on. Sun-
day, September 10 for the
Community Bridal
Shower for Dianne
Crawford, bride-to-be of
this month. Several of the
close neighbors, Mrs. R.
Buchanan, Mrs. J.
Buchanan, Mrs. W.
Vanderlinde, Mrs. Teunis
Kolkman and Mrs.
Bernard Fisher, were in
charge.
For the first part of the
afternoon, ladies put on
their thinking caps and
puzzled over a couple of
contests with Mrs. Glen
McCuspey and -Mrs.
Sharlene Bean being the
winners.
The bride-to-be, • her
sister Darlene and her
mother, Mrs. Horace
Crawford, the special
guests, were seated amid
a decorated background
of pink and white
streamers centered with
the wedding bell.. After
the contests, Dianne
commenced opening the
large array of beautiful,
practical gifts with
Stacey Bean, Michael
Kerr, Sandy. Fisher and
Michele, Joanne and
Deborah Buchanan
assisting and completing
the bridal shower veil
which later adorned the
bride-to-be. She thanked
all for . their ,lovely gifts
and thoughtfulness and
was pleased to see so
many neighbors and
friends.
After an appetizing
lunch served by those in
charge, many of the
ladies chatted with
friends and renewed old
acquaintances.
THRESHER'S
REUNION
A large number of
Colborne residents
attended the Old Time
Huron Pioneer Thresher
and Hobby Association
Reunion this past
weekend at Blyth.
Arnold Young of
Colborne with his
splendid double team
hitch of horses took part
in both Saturday and
Sunday parades.

Benmiller United
Church U.C.W. meeting
was 'held at Benmiller
Church, Wednesday,
September6 at 2 p.m.
The Benmiller Unit was
in charge with Mrs. Hazel
McMichael, acting
President, opening the
meeting with a poem
"Our Task" followed by
the members singing the
hymn, "I. Need Thee
Every Hour", and
Scripture , from the
gospel. Mrs. Marjorie
Treble and Mrs. Helen
Straughan acted out a
short skit on, "Interview
with St. Peter", which
was very timely and well
done.
Minutes of the last
meeting were read by
Mrs. 'Phyllis Feagan and
the treasurer, Mrs. Clare
Ann. Jewell- gave an en-
couraging report. The
various Units ,then
reported on their ac-
tivities since the last
meeting.
Plans were made for a
Fowl Supper tobe held
Wednesday,. November 1
with further information
and advertising on this in
the paper next month.

formed about a donation
)f baking for the Inter-
national `Ploughing
Match.
The meeting closed
with the Benediction and
the members then en-
joyed a social time
together during lunch
which was served by Mrs.
Helen Straughan andMrs.
Hazel McMichael.
The next regular
U.C.W. meeting will be
early in November with
the Maitland Unit in
charge. The Irish Unit
meeting will be Wed-
nesday, September 20 at
the home of Mrs. Art.
Maskell.
4-H NEWS
4-H work has started
and Tiger Dunlop Group
number 1, led by Helen
and Nancy Brindley, had
their first meeting
Monday evening in
Colborne Township Hall
at 7 p.m. There was a
splendid attendance of
10 members interested in
this project.
The •meeting opened
with the 4-H Pledge and
then each member took
'part in using metric
measures in making
metric crispy granola.
Helen and Nancy
Brindley introduced the
project, "Essential''
Edibles" and what would
be required in book
records.

meeting will be this

Twp. Hall at 1:45 p.m.

The Softball season is
nearing completion and
the finals are closing in
and closing out. The
Midget boys lost to
Benmiller B team in their
final series. The Tyke
boys Benmiller B team
defeated Benmiller A
team last week.
SOCIAL NEWS
Municipal enumeration
is over and quite often
one finds a few new
residents in the district
while others have moved
away.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry, who
are in their new home on
Highway 21 at Dunlop
Corner are welcomed to
the Colborne Community.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Brautigam have taken up
residence at Sunset
Beach Road and they are
also welcomed to the
district.
Those who have left the
community, are wished
well.
Mrs. Jean Clements of
Saltford Heights has
moved to Smith Falls
where she is near her son
and family.
It has been holiday
season and most have
had a pleasant summer.

pleasant holiday trip to
Iowa with their cousins,
Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Dragstra of Goderich

interested and amazed
that corn and .soya beans
seemed to be the main
crop in Illinois, Indiana
and Iowa.

Schoemaker and son Alex
had an interesting motor
holiday in. Northern
Ontario.
Cathy Schoemaker and
Patty Schoemaker had a
holiday, trip to Coaldale,
Alta. and visited Patty's
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Rick
Bisset and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
beSilva and sonKevin of
Bermuda attended the
25th wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. Maitland
Montgomery. Mr.
DeSilvo had to return
home but Mrs. DeS.•ilvo is
visiting her relatives and
son, Kevin is attending
school this term in Port
Hope, Ontario.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Nelson of Ridgewood
Park attended the funeral
of Mr. Nelson's sister,
Miss Lela Nelson in
Walkerton on Saturday,
patient in the London
Hospital. He is wished a
speedy recovery. His stay
in the hospital was
heightened by the many
cards and remembrances
from neighbours and
friends.
The cononunity is
sorry to report Reg. Riehl
of Saltford had a painful
accident the other week
when loading straw and is
at present in Alexandra
Marine and General
Hospital, Goderich. His
many friends wish him a
return to better health.
