Vanastra wins LaborDay shootout The Vanastra Gun Club defeated four other clubs at a special skeet shoot on Labour Day, as the club capped an active week. A five -man team from Vanastra defeated similar teams with a total Elevators advance with sweep The Goderich Elevators advanced the Huron Central Ladies Softball League semi- final with a two game sweep over Lucknow in playoff action., The Elevators ham- mered Lucknow 10-2 in Goderich in the opening game and wrapped the best of three series with a 9-2 win in Lucknow. The Elevators will now play the Clinton Housewives. Goderich took early command of the game played . in Goderich scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to the 10-2 win. -to.,4icknow held Goderich off the scoresheet through the next four innings but Bev. Wright held Lucknow hitless until the fifth inning when they scored their first run. Lucknow added another run in the sixth inning. Goderich increased their lead with a three - run rally in the sixth inning to end the scoring. Wright pitched a strong game giving up two runs on four hits and striking out 12 batters. Marg Kovacs, Dianne Mitchelmore and Karen Pond led the Elevators offensively ytitlr-two hits, apiece. Goderich again took the play to Lucknow in the early innings of the second game scoring three runs in both the first and third innings in recording a 9-2 victory. Sylvia Harmon, Karen MacKinnon and Sue Kolkman scored first inning runs for Goderich. Lucknow replied with two runs in their half of the first to pull within one run of the Elevators but the Ladies were unable to count an appreciable offence over the final six innings. Goderich added three runs in the third inning, a single in the fifth and scored their final two runs in the sixth inning. Marg Kovacs, Karen MacKinnon and Sue Kolkman led Goderich with three hits apiece. Joyce Orr picked up the pitching decision for Goderich and settled down to blank Lucknow over the final six innings after she gave up two runs on three walks and two hits in the first in- ning. of 225 skeets out of 250 trys. Mitchell was second with 221, while Exeter was third with 203, and Zurich was fourth with 201. After. the team shoot, Bill.
