The Goderich Kinsmen
Club organized their first
W.O.T.P.A. Sanctioned
Tractor Pull on Saturday
and may have second
thoughts before ever
holding another.
Due to the lack of
community enthusiasm,
the pull was not a
financial success, says
chairman Paul
Dockstader. With
bleachers from the high
school, the Kinsmen were
able to provide seating
for up to 1,200 people but
only '398 persons paid
admission as spectators.
Thirty-eight entries in
the eight different classes
won a total of $2,600 in
prize money. Those
entering, the pull had
their vehicles weighed in
at Edward Fuels first.
Dockstader says the
organization of the pull
was excellent and the co-
operation from town
employees in repairing
and preparing the track
was also to be com-
mended.
Money raised by the
Kinsmen Club at the pull
was to have gone toward
the Goderich and District
Community Grandstand
project.

Some of the, spacious
grounds at the Bluewater
Centre far the
Developmentally Han-
dicapped south of here
took on the appearance of
a large barn yard on
Saturday when the
second annual Farm
Show was held there.
Members of various
•
Huron County 4-H groups,
Calf Clubs and Junior
Farmers brought their
livestock to the Centre to
be judged in the show
ring, at the same time
giving residents of the
Centre an opportunity to
see different breeds of
animals at different
stages of growth.
About 20 of the Centre's
Harold Wiederman of Walton shows off one of the
rabbits he brought for exhibition to the second
annual Farm Show held at the Bluewater Centre
on Saturday. Last year, the Centre's residents
showed such an interest in the furry critters, that
the Centre's personnel were encouraged to add a
rabbitry to the facility's farm project. (Photo by

residents themselves
work year long- at the
facility's own farm.set-up
learning how to make
formula for the different
animals, how to groom
them and when and how
to feed them. In their
barn, they raise cattle,
goats, rabbits, hens and
chickens and Welsh
ponies, Although the
farm project, under the
direction of Lennis
Bedard, has only been
operating for a year, it
has . grown rapidly
showing . excellent
progression, says Mrs.
Ruth Chapman, activity
co-ordinator at the
Centre.
Mrs. Chapman
together with Len
McGregor of the Ministry
of Agriculture and Food
offices in Clinton thought
.up ..the idea. for. a ,Farm
Show two years ago`to
help generate interest in
the Centre, utilize its
grounds and give
pleasure and interest to
the residents there. It is
the only show of its type
to be held at such a
Centre.
This year about 58
exhibitors, twice as many
as last year,. brought.
casttle, pigs, rabbits,
horses, sheep, guinea
foul, goats, hens and
chickens to be judged by
4-1-1 leaders, local far-
mers and vets. About 15
of the Centre's residents
helped with the show and
nearly all of the residents
had a chance to view it.
Last year, the residents
were so interested in the
rabbits displayed at the
show, that,Centre per-
sonnel werencouraged
to adda rabbitry to the
farm project.
Although the Farm
Show is not exactly a
money -making venture,
the Centre's Volunteer
Association did have its
gift shop and canteen
open during the day in an
effort to raise some
money for the residents'
benefit.
After this year's suc- ,
.cess, Mrs. Chapman says
she would like the Centre
to open the show up to the
public next year making
it a "full blown" event.
