Why not walk along with
BY THE REVEREND
ARTHUR GARDNER,
RETIRED UNITED
CHURCH MINISTER
Have'you everwatched
a young couple teaching
their baby to walk? They
Standor sit a few feet
aparf • and with the very
gentlest words encourage
the little one to take a few
steps, from one to the
other. How elated they
are when the baby at last
,its go of the finger and
makes those few . short
steps. alone.. They hug. the,..
child and the baby is
happy because he has
pleased them. ' The
parents are happy
because their child has
learned to walk.
Sometimes in life we
have sickness and
trouble, which causes us
to have to learn to walk
again. A lady in her early
sixties, broke both legs in
a car accident. After
many weeks ' without
walking, she was up in a
chair and was told she
must start walking again.
"0, I am afraid I will
never learn to walk
again," she exclaimed to
the nurse.
"How foolish, of course
you will learn, the nurse
told her. "You learned
the first time, and you
were not nearly as large
as you are now."
The thought of how she
must have learned to
walk as a baby, made the
lady laugh. Soon she was
trying to walk again.
As Christians we are
eager -to walk with God.
We try to serve Him and
walk as He would want -us
to. Sad to say -Christians
sometimes make
mistakes and roust lead
to walk with God all over
again. How wonderful
that He is so patient and
kind to help us when we
falter. •
"The steps of a good
man are ordered of the
Lord:" Have you at some
time questioned a move
you had to make, or a loss
that you sustained? -if you
thought of the fact that
God ordered your foot-
steps-. yott..w ere.content_to

in store for you.
During the Second
World War a boy named
Joe was stationed with
his regiment near the
battle front. Joe's duty
was to wait on the captain
'Of his Company. Making
camp was no easy 'task_
Joe had just finished
digging two slit -trenches
putting in the bed rolls
and was ready, as they
Say; "to hit the sack", .
A very secret message
came from battalion
headquarters ,at that`
moment. The message
was to be relayed to the
flank of the adjacent
company.
The day had been long
and'very tiring and all the
men were busy at their
posts. The captain looked
around, "I am sorry, Joe,
but Iwill have tosend you
with this message."
He realized he was
asking the boy to perform
a task above and beyond
his call of duty.
Joe started off with
dragging steps, a tired

later, he found it had

God, in calling him to -nit- -

would have been in that

for taking him out of the
way! •
