HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1978-07-20, Page 7Auburn gardeners. ._ The Auburn 2 Garden Club held their third meeting at the home of Mrs. Tom Cunningham> The meeting was opened by Annette Losereit with the 4-1.1 pledge. The roll call was answered by all of the members by giving a report on their garden. A vote was taken on the club name - Little Green Sprouts 'was the name chosen. " A discussion took place on the nutrition and freezing of vegetables. Why food spoils and the requirements for satisfactory home storage were also discussed. The correct way to freeze spinach was demonstrated by Linda Cunningham. The leader reminded the members that Miss Bea McClenaghan would be coming July 13 at 1:30 for the garden visits. The meeting was closed with the 4-1-1 grace. SOCIAL NEWS Last week Mrs. Beth Lansing accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Peter of Bervie to Ridgewood, New Jersey to visit their aunt, Mrs. Edith Hunter 'at the Vandyke Nursing Home and to be with her to celebrate her 90th birthday. Miss Ly:in Turner and friend Miss Carol Webb of London spent last weekend With Mr. and Mrs. Bob Turner. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Turner of Strathroy and granddaughter Tara Leonard of Sarnia spent Last Thursday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob Turner. Mrs. Ronald Rathwell of Blenheim and her mother,w Mrs. Celia Taylor of Goderich• visited last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. A letter from • Mrs. Terrell Boyes, the former Laura Collar of Wingham, a missionary for the L'Arabian Fellowship in Israel was read by Mrs. Frank Raithby. The minutes of the June meeting were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Lillian Leatherland. 'The financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs. Frances 'Clark. The offering was received by Rhonda Stadelmann and dedicated -with prayer by Mrs. Sanderson. Mrs. Sanderson thanked all who had taken part and closed the meeting with the hymn, Abide With Me, Fast Falls the Eventide. After singing the grace, lunch was served by Mrs. Frank Raithby, Christine Stadelmann and Mrs. Bradnock. The closing service for the Auburn Daily Vacation Bible • School was held last Friday evening in Knox United Church." This - in- terdenominational school was in the charge of the superintendent, the Reverend Saint-Jean and Mrs. Brian Hallam was in charge of the music. .The theme of this year's school was creation and con- servation with about 60 children three to 12 years of age • attending. After the service, the crafts - were on display and the parents and friends . were given cookies and freshie along with all the pupils by members of the U.C.W. W.I. Over 40 children of the district enjoyed- the annual Children's Day program at the July meeting of -.the _ Auburn Women's Institute held in the Community Memorial Hall.' President Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock, was in charge and welcomed the children, their mothers and members.
