If ' all goes according to plan, ttmair conditioning will be ready for opening night on July 7. „The, air conditioning ., cost is set at $37,000 nd it is the first -544e of renovations to tl),e'theatre totalling over $200,000. Fund-raising for the air conditioning and for the season is now underway. To this date, the Festival has received donations from several- sources, including $5,000 from the Samuel and Saidye Btonfman Family fonndation (who have previously donated $4,000 for publicity purposes, printing of. posters and brochures, etc.). . The Hiram Walker Company has donated $500 , and a - large um is expected from the Capital Support Branch of the Ministry of CulturO and Recreation. Health Unit will check microwave ovens Because of their speed in cooking and heating foods, microwave ovens are becoming more and 'ilfore widely used in homes and businesses. It is also in- capableof producing any chemical changes other than, those normally associated with heating during the cooking process. Manufacturers must conform with govern- ment regulations con- trolling the leakage of microwave radiation. Over a period of time, this level may increase because of wear and•tear on the hinges and door seals. Just' like any other appliance, the microwave oven is a safe and functional device if used properly, The suggestions given below should be used as a guide to good practice with microwave ovens: 1. Read thoroughly and carefully all the in- structions provided by , the manufacturer of the oven. - 2. There is nothing quite like lounging by the pool and taking a refreshing dip now and then. It's too bad that we have to wait for the heat of summer to enjoy our pools • and avoid the brass monkey syndrome. Heating your pool is one obvious means of avoiding this dread disease, but don't shy away from solar energy as a means of heating. Since a pool is a summer project, almost all of the dif- ficulties of solar uolle&ing are eliminated. No insulation or glass, plastic or fibreglass are required for your collector. Indeed, a collector can be as simple as a length of black plastic hose hooked into your existing pump system and -exposed to the -sun. - - Solar Blankets are probably the sirniSlest, commercially available collector for solar heating pools. By laying these transluscent, air 'ffITEd'alnkets Onzffie-Wate-r-Stirfate-yotkearrnotr:-i • only trap a great deal of solar energy, but, also - ethrri n-ate----evalsorattoTi--ti f fie:For e r . Evaporation may seem like a harmless thing, but, easily one half of the required energy comes from the pool itself. The combination of blanket an&black pipe will certainly heat and maintain your pool at a comfortable temperature, but extending the useful period of your pool requires solar collectors. Collectors need not be commercially produced ,(although, they are available). Any do- it-yourselfer could produce and install his own panels due to their simple construction. The limiting factor in the use of collectors is the space and orientation of That 'space required for their efficient use. The recommended collector area is one-half that of your pool, if it is inclined and directed toward the south. Any change in direction will require a proportionally • larger increase in the collector area. Exploitation of renewable resources- is the key to an energy stable future. The Goderich- Lucknow Energy Conservation Centre is here to help yOu learn how to utilize these resources. The Centres, thetefore in continuing with their series of workshops and' seminars; will be presenting a seminar on "Solar Heating for Swimming Pools" on June 22 at,7:30 p.m. in the Goderich Public Library, 52 Montreal Street, Goderich; and June 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lucknow Energy Conservation Centre, Cam- pbell Street, Lucknow (next to , the Lucknow Sentinel office). • AtVIN'S TV _YOUR HEADQUARTERS FCR , . • ROGERS MAJESTIC TV • *- EXPERT 'N....SERVICE _ • AWENNA & TOWER -INSTALLATION 162 MAliT Si.
